Mystical Fried Chicken Recipe circa early 1960's

I'm looking for a specific fried chicken recipe from my childhood. Every Friday my parents would take me out to dinner with them. We always went to the same restaurant and I always ordered the fried chicken. I was 9 in 1966 when the restaurant closed but prior to it closing, I quizzed the chef on his recipe. He would never write it down for me but here's what he did tell me. He used sugar and finely crushed corn flakes in the coating mix. The color of the chicken was brown not the golden shade of most fried chicken. The crust was very crunchy of medium thickness and a tad sweet, The crust did not crumble but rather shattered like glass when you bit in but it stayed adhered to the chicken. The chicken was moist but not overly so as to make the crust soggy. Even cold the crust stayed fairly crunchy. I have dreamed about this chicken and tried to recreate it for years. I've come close but not close enough. Any ideas?
