Which toaster oven

Now that I mostly cook for one I'm finding that I frequently don't bake something I want just because I don't want to heat up the big oven for ... say... two cookies or a small meal.

Therefore, I'm thinking about getting a large Toaster Oven. Do any of you have one that you would recommend.. or say to stay away from?

Yes, the Breville Smart Oven. There's a thread ongoing a few pages back. I bought one last month and love it!

Whatever you get, I love mine with convection and rotisserie.

Thanks, pillog. The dimensions and storage suggestions are extremely helpful. As for the 27" vs. 30", I'd love to have a 30" but the problem is how to fit one in. I'm working around various obstacles (e.g., a chimney) and fixed features (e.g., unmovable doors and some unmovable walls) that limit what we can do with the space. On the other hand, I hadn't thought about what would happen if the 27" ovens die and replacements can't be found. The current ovens are decades old and still work fine, but I guess that's not likely to repeat itself, given the life expectancy of current appliances. It may be time to look at those plans again and see if there's a way to steal 3 inches...

We have a 240 wall version Advantium, & it can do all the grilled cheese, pizza, etc. stuff, much better than a toaster oven. There is no preheat with Advantium speedcooking. You will need a real toaster for toast; we bought a Braun.

I wanted to get the Cuisinart, but it didn't fit in the small space where I wanted to put it, and so I got a Black & Decker that has a rotisserie with it. I've had it for several months and have been completely happy with it, but I don't use it as much as I did when I did not have a good regular oven. I think B&D is about half the price of Cuisinart, but the Cuisinart might have features that you really want. I have rather limited counter space in my new kitchen, although I do have a nice peninsula that of course cannot house appliances. My old toaster oven was also B&D, but it was white, and Kevin wanted to get a black and stainless steel one mainly for looks, and it was not at all expensive. The old white one had a broken leg. Make sure you get one with a crumb tray that you remove from the front - that makes keeping it clean very much easier, especially if you are using it for toast a lot, which is what I mainly do. Lars

I also use a puller -- especially when using the lower rack. It lives in the cabinet drawer next to the oven -- hidden -- where only I know where it is! Cathy - good to know about the great customer service you received from Breville. I will keep that in mind when mine gets 'sick'. I use it everyday, so I don't expect it to last forever, but it would be nice! I also splurged and purchased an extra pizza pan so I could make 2 pizzas easily - worth every penny for the convenience. I also have the electric wok made by Breville. I love their products! Your pup looks so content! Pretty kitchen.

The large Breville has convection. No rotisserie. I like mine and use it frequently. It has replaced the toaster, and does a fine job of light duty broiling, baking scones, pizzas, biscuits.
With the Bed Bath and Beyond 20% off coupon it is a good deal. Not all BBB's will let you use the coupon on Breville. Mine did, and many others have bought theirs there also.

I can roast a medium size chicken with the rotisserie.

But the very best part is I made a coffee bean thing using two cheap strainers to roast green coffee beans using the rotisserie. I can roast one lb at a time. Nothing like roasting your own coffee beans. :-)

I'm a a bit jealous of dcarch's coffee bean set-up, but I love my Breville Smart Oven. It's my toaster and acts as my second oven when I need the flexibility. Anything small goes in there, whether the big oven is being used or not. I've even used it to bake bread, just tent foil over the top to prevent the crust from getting too brown.

We are a family of 5, and use it all the time.

I love my Breville Smart Oven. I hardly use my regular oven anymore unless I need something larger. I bought through Hammacher Schlemmer. It might be slightly more expensive than using coupons, etc but it has a lifetime, no questions asked guarantee which I like.

Another vote for the Breville. I also have the larger one and use it frequently for smaller items.

It toasts well too!

I will agree with all the Breville Smart Oven comments. My first experience with convection and I am sold on that. It will accomodate a 10" pie and bake it to perfection. Abit pricey in the beginning, but worth every cent. I use it first.....'stove oven wonders what it did
wrong not to get used anymore'.
