Am I the only one that has this prob w/ yarn? LOL

Okay, every winter I really get into crocheting. My only thing is I seem to make nothing but scarves and more scarves!

I see really pretty yarn that I love at the store but can't figure out what to make with them. Sometimes even making a scarf isn't the option because I KNOW they don't match anything so we'll never use them! LOL Or I buy them with the intention of doing something different and then realize I do not have nearly enough yarn to finish!

Our Wal-Mart has some of the "funky" yarns on sale right now and I found many that I really liked but again..didn't know what to do with them. So I bought two that I really liked for a scarf for me and left the others behind..but the're haunting my thoughts now! LOL

I do the same thing in spurts with my knitting. I always have a project going, but I'm always looking around on the internet for different patterns, and in here also for new ideas. I find something that I like and then I order the yarn and there it sits, because by the time I finish my current project, I have found something else I want to do. I have enough yarn to make a prayer shawl and I was going to make a booga bag and then felt it so I have some noro kureyon and I have oodles and oodles of sugar and cream yarn for making dishcloths. I like to make them in sets and have a few for quick gifts. But yeah, I do like you do, buy the yarn and then wonder what I'm going to do with it. I subscribe to about 5 knitting magazines and there are lots of ideas in those all the time - some of them way too advanced for me, but I pick the ones I think I can handle.

Unfortunately I think this happens with any craft you get into.
The supplies look all so seductive so you end up buying them without a project in mind and then it sits around and you move on to different things.
Or if you do have something in mind then, as lawmar mentioned, you move on to new and exciting things.
I have just picked up crochet and am on project #4 and so far I have stuck to my motto that I must finish one project before buying supplies for the next.
So far, but as I said I have only done 4 projects so I'm not sure how long it will last :0)
I have seen other forums where they do a craftalong where everyone works on their unfinished projects and post them.
It is a way to get encouragement to finish up things. Anyone interested?

I like the Software running the forum, I find it Fantastic. I do. -- Someone in their estimation decided Not to give to forum users many of the options that are given to them in other forum Software. E.g. to quote each other in subsequent posts by clicking on "quote", to post twice with no barriers to doing so, to use spaces to express meaning (all extra spaces get deleted, and extra carriage returns too, so you cannot easily add extra interline spacing), to post without reading & reviewing one's own post first, to know how many "times read", how many people have clicked on a thread. Between now and the 22nd Century, human society might begin to choose what is ultimately useless information, like how many people have clicked on the thread since it was first created. Let's understand that we don't need to know that level of detail. What we really want to know is whether the thread is worth reading and that depends on concepts and quality of contributors' input: these two things can be tracked on the side -- and eventually included as a tool in a far future version of this forum. I'm assuming you are prepared to look into the future. There are some irritants but they are of little importance. E.g. CAPS in subject line get bounced to lower-case. It is easy to program into the software a few text management constraints that then surprise You and some others, but that ultimately are a Good Thing to work around and to accept as a good thing instead of thinking that you ought to have more and more options like text formatting. I personally vote in favor of programming that brings us all back to basic text, so all use of Upper Case IN ENTIRE WORDS be converted into lower case so that upper case only be available for word-initial use. Don't love the search function here... the way it's date-oblivious and doesn't allow you to select a date-RANGE. Hits for a particular keyword brings up a thread from 5 YEARS ago, followed by one from 5 DAYS ago, followed by one from 5 MONTHS ago, etc... But workarounds are easy, and in the future an access tool would get around it easily. Let's discuss bigger things: what would be useful to help you track the things you want to track and to find the information you want and to call upon the right community (people) when you need them and to be relatively sure that your requests are well received -- this would be a tool for which I would pay to have special access.

Gell I think it's sweet that you adopted a wee bit o' the Irish on behalf of your son! I got engaged on St Patrick's in St Maarten. We were at a restaurant that was centered about a pool under a lenai with gorgeous birds and tropical foliage. We had dinner and then went to the bar for beverages served in ivory plastic mugs that turned green when filled with cold liquid. I teased down the steps into pool [shoes off] to the top of my shorts and DH followed. We kept going and wound up slow dancing in the pool up to our waists fully dressed. Dh said "You should marry me" I said "I might rabbit I might" the next day we bought a ring in Phillipsburg and he asked me in the store and asked again later that night out on Honeymooners walk in the moonlight with a steel drum band in the background to make sure. We love 7's and 17's. Engagement 3/17 his DOB 1/17 my DOB 4/17 our first house 117 our second house 17 our first son due June 7, our second son born 2/7. Damn that's *nothing* to do with corned beef! Or the lack thereof lol.

Thanks guys, I've been watching cooking shows today and obsessing over hardware! Guess what, America's Test kitchen used knobs on drawers so it must be ok! (or maybe it was the other show I watched?) I wanted a real mix of hardware, yes I love yours Igloo, but I made too many other choices! I got too tired out. DH will be around tomorrow for install so I told him to decide on placement FOR me! Yes, "decision prison" LOL!! I'm refusing to decide on a backsplash for now, even though we have a history of never finishing everything! I think I would just pick something safe, which might be ok, but I don't want to regret it later. Sooo anxious to see it in real life and see if it all comes together!!!!

While talking to a guy building a new home nestled among upscale houses in a nearby village, I told him that if you'd told homeowners of World War II variety that in modern days they've been taking wood chips, mixing them with glue, making them into sheets and using them to build walls of houses, they'd have laughed at you and said that no way would they consider paying their good money to buy a piece of crap built like that! It's not unusual to see buildings in Europe 300 - 500 years or more old. Have you ever seen such in our area? My shelf panels and shelves, made of sawdust and glue, have a piece of cardboard stapled to the back to keep the unit from falling over sideways. ole joyful

I have used eyelash yarns for scarves only. Sometimes I add another yarn for warmth. And since I live in southern California, they all get shipped off to DD in San Francisco or her friends or DS in NYC.

I saw baby eyelash yarn on sale at Michael's yesterday. Unlike the other eyelash yarns, it can be machine washed and dried. But I couldn't figure out what to make with it, so I was good and put it back. DD must have 30 scarves I have made, and she does not need another.

That happens to me too. I find I will do that for a couple of winters and then take one winter and finish all the projects and then I start again. With some of that fancy yarn I have added plain yarn to it and made hats and mittens. They are nice and warm because of the two strands of yarn.

The fancy yarn is good for trim on sweaters too--like the cuffs and collars. I keep thinking there must be a way to use eyelash yarn to make a muff for a little girl. I always thought they were so cute. I suspect it would never be used.

You've told my story. I was just looking at the bags and bags of beautiful yarn I've bought, very few with a set purpose in mind. I was putting away one of my many scarves today (two diferent outfits, wore two different scarves) and had trouble stuffing it in with the others. Yes. Scarves are popping up everywhere. But to my credit, I did make two shawls, 3 felted bags, two hats (all for myself) and scarves for a few other people, plus a 1/2 done poncho for great-neice. Another felted bag is in my head for the daughter (who wants no scarves, thank you very much - she lives in Dallas). Sigh...

Try finding some books on one-skein wonders/patterns.

I'm using up all of my oddball skeins/leftovers of acrylic on an afghan. I'm using all of my leftover wool yarn on a scarf.

Hats are a good way to use up one skein of something.

I amassed a lot of new acrylic yarn from a town yard sale (33 skiens for $9) and our local Sr. Center thrift shop, and have made Lap robes for nursing homes, small blankets for hospital nurseries, and some for shelters where there are children. Everything donated must be completely machine washable and dryable. I'm a sucker for the 1 lb. Caron with 40% off coupon for afghans for family, and I've found that having 2 or 3 things going at the same time wards off the boredom factor.

However, I am running out of space to keep my stashes. I say I'm going to whittle it down, then buy more ;-)
