That's disgusting.

Not enough bleach in the world for me to use those!!!!!!!!!!!

How revolting! Was that on Craigslist?

Alisande, I found it on Craigslist under "FREE".

Oh my - makes you wonder what is under the lid on the second one.

Makes my "Mud" room look pretty darn clean! And I have a farmer/stockman for a husband, LOL!

That is gross.

From the two items for sale, I think the seller was too busy taking care of someone to clean. At least I hope that's the excuse for that floor. How embarrassingly awful!

That looks like the place where my dh went in answer to an ad in our local newspaper. The ad was for a Hoveround motorized wheel chair. The ad said "paid $3500 used just 6 months. Like new condition asking $600". The chair was filthy..cigarette burns on the seat and arms, the wheels were caked with dog feces and all the vinyl covered parts were black with grime, not to mention the dried on food and who knows what else streaked all over the metal parts. The woman said that she also had a handicapped commode for sale too. My dh very quickly decided that he didn't even want to see that! He did offer the woman $200 for the Hoveround and she quickly jumped on that. Dh loves a challenge. Brought the thing home and sprayed it well with Lysol. Let it sit a few days, then completly tore it apart, cleaned it up and replaced some parts. Had to put about $100 into it, but it is now worthy of giving to the first person we come upon who desperatly needs this kind of ride, but can't afford it.

gazania - that is a wonderful thing to do!

That floor is disgusting!

I feel much better about tackling my spring cleaning list and inspired today after seeing this.
Thank you so much for posting and reminding me what I NEVER EVER want any part of my house/workshop/garage/garden shed to look like.
Eeeeewwwwwwwwwww is an understatement. Maybe Hazmat should be called in !

I think the seller was too busy taking care of someone to clean.

I prefer to think like Patti...or perhaps the caregiver isn't able himself (or herself) to tackle cleaning. In any case, somebody probably lost a loved one. :-(

I'm guessing the pictures were taken in the home of the disabled person.

I think it is just pathetic that someone didn't help that person clean there house once in awhile.

Can you imagine if you were disabled and could not clean your home...

I would sure hope my family would come help me.

I've sure done a lot for them in the past....but I guess that really doesn't mean much...does it.

No I would not want those items either.

But I still think it is sad that the home got that bad.

patti

If I needed them, I'd take them.

Bleach is amazing.

I bet the items themselves are MUCH cleaner than the floor. It's the edges and corners of the floor that are gunky--the parts you can't clean unless you get down on your hands and knees.

The edges and corners of the items actually look pretty clean. You can clean those standing up.

Have seen much worse in my days as a home health nurse and had to see patients in those conditons. One home the aide and I went to one winter, we had to go outside to the old cistern, break the ice haul up a bucket of water and put on the filthy stove to heat so she could give the woman a bath.

I went for another bucket of water, heated it and started cleaning the filty kitchen while she helped the lady with her bath. THEN, I did my health assessment. At least we left it a little cleaner than when we came but still in deplorable condition.

Gazania, that's great that your husband would do that. I've cleaned up lots of awful stuff, just wear heavy duty gloves and super cleaning stuff and lots of bleach.

Possibly the person taking the picture never considered helping to clean the person's house.

NASTY!

They're gone. Somebody got them.

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt also. There is so much involved with being a caregiver. Housework isn't always at the top of the list.

The 2 items don't really look that bad to me. I hope someone who really needed them, got them. I feel sorry for people who need items like this and I know what it's like to be more concerned about the ill person than the floor or housework. Sometimes there is only so much of yourself to go around. And sometimes old linoleum just won't clean up anymore.

IMHO, a dependent person deserves to be treated with dignity. I think moderate cleanliness does not require a large budget nor does it take 24 hrs a day to keep living conditions sanitary.

These rooms appear to have not been cleaned in quite some time. Look at the back legs of the walker and the back area of the potty chair; they show caked-on smudges and smears.

This makes me wonder whether this poor person had clean sheets and was even bathed or washed as needed.

I think if these are the conditions we were allowed to see, then what we didn't see was probably much worse.

That's all I'm saying.

When DH and I are in our 90s, our house may look like that if we have nobody to care for us except each other. :-) Getting on my knees and scrubbing the floor is hard enough at 50... LOL!

I kept waiting for someone to say, "Maybe that's not the area where those items were used. Maybe the photo was taken in a garage or storage area." It's a possibility...
