I use my Braun grinder daily. It is a simple, no-frills model, and I love it. Occasionally I sweep it out with a little grinder brush, but that is all the cleaning it needs. I don't use flavored beans and I don't grind spices in it.

Do you know what model yours is? I see there are 2 different ones on Amazon but they run about $150.

I don't want to spend that much on what might just be a passing fancy with me. Like anything though, I guess you get what you pay for.

My electric coffee maker( Cuisinart Grind and Brew) both grinds and then brews up to 12 cups. I've had it for 4 years, and I love it.
The carafe is a thermal carafe - not plastic or glass, so if I oversleep, the coffee is still hot.
I bought a gold filter basket for it - I just can't stand the idea of drinking coffee that's been dripped through a paper filter.
DH's coffee maker has a hot plate, and I don't like it, because it continues to "cook" the coffee.

This is a perfect example of why I like to search the net and then often end up buying on line as opposed to traveling to 'the city' and then getting dizzy trying to find what I think I might want at a reasonable price.

Monica, is the carafe a double wall stainless steel or what? I'm also in the market for a new drip coffee maker, and don't want black, something massive (prefer smaller footprint) and would prefer it to be white...ie not black or stainless. I wouldn't mind the color of the carafe being stainless though.

I also don't want it to 'drip' if I choose to get a cup before it is totally finished brewing.

I have a basic Braun grinder that works good. Until recently the coffee I have made has been pretty crappy tasting

My Black and Decker drip coffee maker that I loved the burner stopped working after 5 years of use. My SIL gave me her Oster drip coffee maker because they bought one of those pod coffee makers. Anytime I made coffee in the machine it was horrible and I have tried multiple brands of coffees but it all tasted bad. I finally figured out it was the plastic in the machine that was making the coffee taste bad.

I posted on FB about not being able to make a good cup of coffee and my cousin posted that he and his wife have a drip coffee maker, a pod coffee maker and a Bodum and they preferred the coffee made in the Bodum. I asked if the Bodum was a French Press and he said yes. LOL My sister had given me a French Press and it has been sitting on my counter for years being used as a decoration. I went on Youtube and watched how to make coffee using a French Press, went to the grocery store and ground a bit of coffee to see what a coarse grind looked like and then came home, ground my beans and used the French Press. I was amazingly surprised how good the coffee tasted. Finally a good cup of coffee. It makes almost 2 mugs of coffee which is enough for me. haha I guess I went off topic a bit but I am so happy I can make a good cup of coffee after months of drinking crappy coffee

You should get a coffee grinder which has adjustable grind settings: as cherryfizz found out, grind size makes a difference.
You should get a burr grinder (as opposed to a blade grinder (like a blender) as it produces a more even grind.
When I bought my grinder well over ten years ago our national consumer magazine recommended Krups or De Longhi grinders for reliability and I have to say they are right as I drink freshly ground coffee daily and am still using the same grinder which is still in excellent condition and has never let me down. Mine is a De Longhi KG100 which is hard to find and expensive now.
The Amazon site lists two Krups burr grinders, the GVX1-14 for $34.59 and the GX600050 for $56.28. I'd probably go for the GX600050 as it looks a bit more sturdy.
If you don't want to grind every day, it's still pretty good if you grind 2-3 days' worth and keep it in a tightly sealed jar.

We've been using the same Braun grinder for 35 years. And I have a spare (was my father's) in reserve. Like Hounds, we just use the brush to clean it out, and never use it for anything else.

We buy the organic beans at Costco, 3# bag.

I used mine as a spice grinder. Works great, too. 'Cept for the time Harry was grinding peppercorns to put on a prime rib and decided to take the lid off to see how they were doing--while it was still grinding. Oh, that man! I found pepper for a week in places you'd never expect it to be.

I also have a Braun grinder. I use it every morning. You learn to control how fine you want your coffee ground by the length of time you grind it. I've read that burr grinders are the best, but I have never tried one.

Mine looks like the one listed on Amazon (the ksm2) but I know I didn't pay anywhere near that amount, more like $25 or $30. It's like a miniature blender. Anyway, I am happy with it.

I also have a coffee maker with a stainless steel thermal carafe. It is so much better than a glass carafe that is heated from below and the coffee "cooks". This keeps the coffee warm and tasting good for quite a while.

I have a Braun, basic model with no settings. I like it as you just release the button when it gets to the grind you want. I would rather do it that way myself. I've had it for app.5 yrs. and works great! I only use it for coffee & just wipe it out with a paper towel after each use.

Last year I bought a Bodum grinder, model 10903-01US . It was a bit pricey, in my opinion, but I had a 50-dollar gift certificate, so ended up having to pitch in only about 12 more dollars. I agree that you should consider a burr grinder. I've had several with the blades and they don't last as well and don't grind as evenly either. I just checked Amazon, where I bought mine and I see that the price is now $114! As much as I love it, I don't think I would ever pay that price, but it's one heckuva grinder!

I have had a Braun burr grinder for years, wouldn't part with it for anything.
Light and air are enemies to ground coffee...keep it in an opaque tightly lidded jar if you grind more than you will use in one day.

I have a Proctor-Silex grinder that I have had for many years. I use it twice daily to grind espresso beans. I just know by the sound when the beans are ground the way I want them.

Cherryfizz, no you didn't get off topic at all, since I'm looking for whatever it takes for a good cup of coffee. I 'had' a coffee press, (got it used in a box from an auction) and gave it away without even trying it. Maybe I need another one, even if it is just for those rare occasions when the power is out, yet I can still heat things because I have a gas range.

Maybe before getting a grinder I'll try some various coffees freshly ground in the store and invest in a vacuum sealing coffee canister.
