Lord have mercy :(, print out these instructions Lynn. I would be making your tile guy do this, that's what he was paid to do.

As far as the transition to carpet he should have been allowing for that too. He should have used a Schluter metal underneath the tile and tucked the carpet back to it.

Thank you Jerry for your help today with your private email and letting me call you. After 4 hours with direct vinegar, Magic Eraser Pads and then rinsing over and over again with vinegar and water solutions using up a lot of sponges, I finally got this shiny film that also had white on it off of the tiles.

So despite being happy that the tiles all line up are the grout lines are very good with not too many widths differing from 1/8th grout width promised to me, I am unhappy that the tile guy did not listen to the instructions the the Epoxy grout (SpectraLOCK) required a special clean up with Vinegar. I am also unhappy that he left 2" of room between the tile and carpets and never put a transition piece there.

What a shame since he would have just completed the job, I would have given him my kitchen to do after my busy season and given him the three rooms of engineered hardwood floors to do for me.

Part of the job is clean up and transition pieces.

Now I must try to work all night to catch up with what I have not done in the last few days due to all this tile stress. I will post pics in the next few days.

Thanks Laurie for sharing that link. I guess I must make sure the transition piece will be easy to take off and not ruin my tiles so I can install engineered hardwood floors after my tax season ends.

The tile guy came back tonight to pick up his battery charger and glued down a metal transition piece I bought telling me he did not want to put nails in if I plan on doing laminate or engineered wood floors after my busy season. He would not put the piece down on the front foyer and told me he would just caulk the cement floor showing until I was ready to remove the carpet.

I'll take pics when it dries and I have some time.

It amazes me that the grout dried and now is 1/8 to 1/4th depending on the tile indentations to look like real stone but somehow looks nice.

I think for my kitchen I am going to go with a tile that has very square edges so I can do a skinny grout line.

In all the tiles look nice and I am glad the job is finally done at last so I can get my work done so in a few months, I can pull the rugs up that are almost 18 years old and need to be cleaned way too often.

The caulking is drying more and more gold and I am sure he did not use the same Almond he used when he was here last and just wanted me to return the battery charger he left here so he did as little as he could to cover the cement area between the carpet and tiles in the front foyer despite giving him a metal transition piece I bought that he did not want to use. I wanted the caulking to match the mushroom grout.

The goldish colored caulking is still soft and not dry so I wonder how long it will dry with my floors so cold despite keeping the room at 71 degrees? I have to block that area so will take pictures when it is dry.

The middle foyer's metal piece was glued on and a piece of wood was not placed on the 2" cement area in between the tile and carpet so he could nail down the transitional metal piece I bought for him. I hope it does not look too bad when it dries. I hope I can live with this until I have time and money after my busy season to replace this carpet.

To me not finishing a job is liking making a beautiful dress and not cleaning lint and dirt off of it and not hemming it so the edges are frayed.

I have a few deadlines I am working on but I will try to make time to take some pictures to post. Today I am in love with my tiles and so glad I chose the Akoya Bone Tiles. I still wish the transition areas were done nicer but I know when I do the engineered wood floors in a few months, the wood floor installer will use wood transition pieces so it will look extra nice.

avignon, you will love the tile since it looks so real, never looks dirty and is not slippery. I love the bone and beige coloring also.

What grout color are you using? Are you using an Epoxy Grout or just using regular grout and sealing it? What grout width did you chose? I know you will be so happy with this beautiful porcelain tile like I am.

I am all over the place with questions for all you great people. I decided to go with Akoya Bone in my hall bath( for my three daughters)The grout color excapes me.. I will get the name tomorrow when I go back, it does match exactly. Did the mushroom grout that you used match. Am not sure if it is epoxy or not. Is epoxy recommended? I'll have to check on that. I am going with Crossville Empire, Palais Taupe in my Master Bath. And either Daltile Brazilian Green Continental Slate, or another Keramia, Tibet-Tent for the Mudroom/Powderroom on the 1st floor. I still need to pick out the granite counters for the kitchen. The rest of the 1st floor is easy.. hardwood. Can't wait to see your pictures!! Oh, did you buy online or from a tile shop? Just curious?

Avignon, The tile choices for your bathrooms sound like my taste and I can't wait to see pictures of your tiles floes. As soon as my friend comes by to clean my carpets (will be wood floors after my busy season that is coming up) that are transitioned now with the tiled floors, I will take pictures. I really love the Akoya Bone two foyer areas so much.

I purchased the tile at 25% off from Wayne Tile in NJ so ended up paying $4/sq. ft. Each tile is 12.125" X 12.125" so they are each a little more than a square foot. I purchased the Thinset at Wayne Tile but purchased the Mushroom Epoxy Grout (Laticrete SpectraLOCK) at Lowe's in Butler, NJ. I live in Northern, NJ.

After my busy season, I also want to tile my kitchen so I would love to see your tiled floors.

The Epoxy grout works! One of my little dogs missed the puppy pad I keep in back of the middle foyer when I was getting my hair done today. I cleaned it up with no staining on the grout or tile! My carpets are dirty still but I may try to take pics in the next two days. I am just under so much stress with having to hire a new employee since my employee quit just recently.
