Ideas for leftover caramel sauce?

I always make AnnT's bread & butter pudding for Easter, but always have caramel sauce leftover. Any suggestions on what else to use it with. Can I freeze it?

Linda, it is really good eaten by the spoonful. That is how my leftovers usually end up getting eaten.

It is also wonderful served over ice cream, over warm apple pie, gingerbread cake, brownies, etc.....

Grilled Pineapple with Caramel Sauce
Serves 4

1 Pineapple
1/4 cup caramel sauce

Cut the mean skin of the pineapple off and core. Cut the pineapple in half. Then slice the pineapple halves into 1/2" slices. If you have skewers, skewer the pieces of pineapple. Heat the grill pan over medium heat. Put the pieces or skewers of pineapple onto the grill pan. Let grill for about 3 minutes and flip and cook an additional 3 minutes on the other side. While the pineapple is grilling, drizzle a serving plate with half the caramel sauce. Once the pineapple is cooked, remove and place on the serving plate. Drizzle the top of the pineapple with the remaining caramel sauce. Serve as is or over ice cream.

OP would have to verify, but I'm thinking NOT "sweetened/comdemsed", since significant amount of sugar(s) added... but DON'T take my word on that. BUT I've made a pretty tasty caramel sauce from sweetened condensed... actually dulche de leche. UNopened can (remove paper wrapper) in pot deep enough to cover by an inch or so. Bring up to simmer and let go for... 1 hour will give you something about the color of posted picture... 2 hours darker and thicker. DO not attempt to open can till COOL. Makes for a nice cheese cake... layer on crust before base goes in, swirled thru base before baking or drizzled over finished/chilled cheese cake. A spoonful in your coffee is a nice change from sugar. It's addictive!

Here's one way that I have used up a chicken breast. If the breast is already cooked, then cook onion in step 2 and add chicken pieces to onion in pan to warm them. Chicken & Chunky Pesto on Whole Wheat Spaghetti I made the pesto (the yellow one at left) rather than the food processor as it was such a small amount and it turned out lovely and chunky. Here's the recipe as I made it for the two of us, using half of my usual pesto recipe: 1 chicken breast cut into bite sized strips 1 small onion - sliced 2 portions of whole wheat spaghetti 1/4 teasp sweet smoked Spanish paprika (optional) olive oil for cooking Pesto - this is the halved version: 2 cloves of garlic - minced 1 cup of loosely packed basil leaves - chopped 1/4 cup olive oil 1/4 teasp salt 1/4 teasp fresh ground black pepper 1/4 cup grated parmesan 1/4 cup pine nuts 1/2 teasp water 1. Put a large lidded pot of salted water on to boil for the spaghetti. 2. Prepare chicken and put into a small frying pan with onion and a bit of oil. Saute until cooked, turning and shaking pan.....about 12 minutes or until chicken pieces are cooked and all is lightly browned. Sprinkle with paprika and stir. Put on lid and keep warm while preparing the rest. 3. Meanwhile put in a ceramic mortar the salt, pepper, minced garlic and a few drops of the measured oil. Pound to a medium paste and add pine nuts, pounding some more, then add the chopped basil leaves, grated parmesan and some more of the oil. Continue grinding to a paste then add the rest of the olive oil. If it looks a little dry, add a few drops of water, up to 1/2 a teaspoon. 4. Boil the spaghetti 12 minutes or according to package. Drain and return to pan. Scoop out the pesto with a spoon and spatula and stir it into the spaghetti, mixing well. Serve on heated plates or platter and top with the chicken-onion mixture. Garnish with a sprig of basil and pass around the block of parmesan with a grater. SharonCb

Thanks for all the replies. I heard about this first on another board where probably 20 or 30 women have successfully boiled in the can. no-one reported any explosions although lots of mention was made to insure the cans always remain covered with water. The intent of re-canning was just to get a prettier jar but I can and will simply (although nothing is simple when it comes to digitizing and printing a label) use a homemade label. I've never made it but here's the BB Praline Syrup recipe 2 cups dark corn syrup 1/2 cup water 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 cup pecan pieces 1/2 tsp vanilla Combine syrup and water in a saucepan. Add sugar stirring frequently until dissolved. Bring to a boil; boil one minute. Reduce heat, stir in pecans and vanilla; simmer 5 minutes. Ladle hot syrup into hot jars leaving 1/4" headspace. Adjust two piece caps. Process 10 minutes in BWC.

Used to do this for my DS when he was a youngster. Use your imagination. Grilled Cheese Pizza Sandwich 1 tablespoon butter, softened 2 slices bread 2 slices mozzarella cheese **I used regular cheese slices 4 slices pepperoni (sandwich size, sliced ultra thin)I used balogna 3 tablespoons pizza sauce *use your spaghetti sauce ***I spread the sauce with the cheese and meat on the bread before grilling Directions Butter one side of each slice of bread. Place one slice in a heated skillet, butter side down. Top with cheese, pepperoni, and another slice of cheese. Cover with second bread slice, butter side up. Cook over medium heat until golden brown, turning once. Let sit for a couple minutes. Cut into 4 long slices and serve with pizza or marinara sauce for dipping.

Make desert crepes and fill them with bananas and caramel sauce or some other combination such as the one Glenda suggested. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Hmm I just had some of mine...Flourless chocolate cake..whipped cream and strawberries...caramel sauce over all..

Linda, I usually make a "half batch" though..but with company I thought I'd need more..nope...They didn't know what they were missing....LOL

BTW (once more), crepes are an easy impromptu dessert once you have tried it a couple of times. It used to be a favorite of mine and my friends who got together for informal meals on the weekend.

That stuff is good! I've made Ann's bread and butter pudding twice now. Amazing. I would put the leftovers on french toast if there was any left.

Brownies, spoons, and apples won out last evening. My neighbor had just mixed up a batch of brownies and found out her oven wasn't working, so she brought them over to bake here. So the guys had warm brownies with caramel sauce(they are both chocoholics) and us gals had mostly spoonfuls, but a little bit of apple with it.
