When she/he decides to come.....

She/he doesn't fool around. It seems like our Fall stayed around for about 3 months longer than usual, but when Winter comes....No foolin around!! It is 16 below with 24 below wind chill. Not sure if Winter is male or female, but i do know she/he sure has a mind of it's own.

Egads Phyllis I thought 37 above in NE Tex was bad enough.
I cant imagine 24 below. When growing up in Chicago we used to sit in front of the radio on school mornings to hear if school would be closed when it got one or two below. I've neve been in your cold weather

Does she enjoy family reunions? Maybe you could organize a "family party" near her birthday (I agree August is pretty far off) and have a nice cake with candles. For my 50th, my husband gave me the nicest gift, and it might be nice for your aunt, too, because she doesn't like to be the center of attention and might not like toasts or tributes to her at the party. He contacted all the relatives and friends -- including old friends from school and even camp! -- and asked them to send him a favorite memory or story. He put photos in, too. I ADORE it -- it's the nicest gift I ever got. We had done this years for my parents' 40th anniversary, and they loved it, too. So you could do this for your aunt; buy a pretty scrapbook and ask all the relatives and, if you know who her best friends are, them, too, to contribute. Maybe you could invite a few of her friends to the dinner, too? If all of this would still be too much fuss for her, maybe just have a small group take her for a little trip or something. Then the focus is off her, even though she is the guest of honor. We and my SIL's family are taking my MIL on a family trip for her 80th (although she LOVES being the center of attention!). If that is still too much, then just take her to dinner at the best restaurant you can do and give her a nice gift and/or a generous gift to her favorite charity. If I were your aunt, I would love any of these, because they all share the most important thing: they show you love and honor her. You are a good niece!

Lavon...how many cats or how many raccoons? The most raccoons I have counted at one time was about 60, but I don't think there are that many now, although there is no telling how many come during the night. Like my husband said, there is no telling what comes down there at night to eat. Very seldom is there any food left over. As for how many cats...I don't know that either. Maybe 30. I feed a little more than 20 lb. of cat food a day, plus some of the cats eat with the raccoons too. People (who know hogs) are more surprised that the hogs don't bother my chickens than the raccoons not bothering the cats. They tell me that hogs love to eat chickens. But, everything here is fed so well...they really don't bother each other very much. Tonight Piggy Lee got after Coach (my old dog), and I had to chase her off of him, but I can see why she did it. He will not leave her alone. I feel sorry for him, but he is the dumbest dog I have ever had. Amos, the donkey, stomped him a few days ago, and at least he learned to stay out of that pasture but no matter how many times Piggy Lee gets after him, he won't leave her alone, and always picks the fights. Chisue, I don't know for sure what kind of dog Zelda is mixed up with. She is part dachshund for sure, and I thought maybe part Schnauzer of maybe even Scottie. I found her when she was about 5 months old, sitting by the highway about a mile from here. No houses around. I couldn't find her owner but I thought she might have belonged to our local hog hunter's girlfriend. They both went to prison for DWIs...about the time she showed up, but I have since found out she didn't belong to her. I thought she did because their hog dogs would often run after their truck when they went somewhere, and Zelda had a hunk bitten out of her back leg, like those dogs will do to other animals. I should have known she didn't belong to them. She was healthy, clean, and didn't have fleas. I have no idea how she ended up just sitting by the highway.

I agree - really cool stories! How refreshing to have a thread where people actually like their snakes and stick up for them! I am so tired of people being so freaked out by snakes and killing them at the drop of a hat. I've had folks kill them and bring them for me to ID and I'm always so sad. If you don't know what it is why kill it? It is really true - they are more afraid of you than you are of them ... they only want to get out of our way and back to a safe place. Except for maybe Sam who seems to enjoy hanging out with dirtygardener. lol I have lots of black racers and also use Craftsman black garden hoses. I have reached down to pick up a hose and have it be a black racer about three times now. Nearly gives me a heart attack ... and the snake too ... they leap straight up in the air and take off like a shot. My black racers are always grumpy. But, I do have little browns, ring necked, and pinewoods snakes that let me carry them around and enjoy their beauty and company. Here's one of my black racers hanging out by the hose. This was right after the last freak out so I was checking and spotted him so went and got the camera. Keep up the cool snake stories ... it's very fun reading. :)

Dovetail drawers are a common standard component in cabinet construction. The cab sub orders them from a supplier. It's no problem. Most mid grade and up cabinet drawers come with dovetail box construction. Another common drawer component is Blumotion slides possibly with soft close. Talking to the sub before he gives a quote about these is a normal practice. A specific type of lazy susan is the same. This is locking down components that affect the construction. Once the sub knows these parts are part of the project he can determine his costs and give the GC a price for the number of cabinets this particular job requires him to supply. The same applies to different door styles and wood varieties, paint finishes or other finishing affects. I'm sure you picked those too. There is no standard price because every kitchen has a different number of cabinets of different types. One kitchen can have $3k in cabs and the next $10k. That's why the cab sub is there before the contract price is presented. You told him what you wanted. He told the GC what his part of the job would cost. The GC figured his total cost and profit and gave you a price. You accepted his offer. That's all you owe. The sub is trying to overcharge the GC. He needs to go back to the sub for a refund. Which is probably something he has a lot of power to do because the sub has worked with him and wants to continue working with him on future jobs. Stand firm. Don't accept his verbiage about not making any money. He's making a healthy amount for his work. Next time you work with him require a complete list of specs as part of his contract offer. Write in any changes in pen before you sign. They supersede printed provisions and are controlling when the contract is signed.

It was 50 degrees on Long Island on Tuesday,Wednesday was very windy (50 MPH winds) and Thursday morning it was 20. They say we'll get about a half inch of snow. I grew up in Buffalo NY, famous for its big snows. They got two feet last weekend. I think weather is a female. Call me "sexist" if you want . . .

Lovely brisk sunny day here in Philadelphia. I do hope we get lucky and get through this winter with no snow. After a hurricane and an earthquake last fall, we've earned it. I hate snow.

Cold - as in a few degrees of freezing.

Snowing - go around corners with care (especially if another car sitting in the lane just beyond the one into which you're turning).

Not exactly balmy - that's the people.

Brrr! I get cold just thinking about it. I follow the major cities' weather in the daily newspaper and I can't believe how cold it is in some cities. Luckily a lot of people love the cold weather, but I'm not one of them.

Since winter is the bragging rights season for Florida, I have to tell you that our high temps through next Monday will be in the high 70's and lows in the high 50's. Perfect weather to have the doors open and lots of sunshine, too.

OK, I'm ducking the snowballs right now!

Patti -- I'll see your 70's and raise your ten. HOWEVER, we've had Kona winds carrying VOG for the last three days, so Asthmatic Sue is holed up indoors with the A/C on Maui. Today is a little less voggy. (Vog is created by fumes from the active volcano on Big Island, carried north across all the island chain.) The Trades (NE winds) are to return and continue through Sunday.

Chisue, LOL! If you have to be holed up inside, better it be Maui than Chicago. Snow was in the forecast today and cold, cold weather. Hope your asthma clears up! Aloha!!

Patti, somebody has to live in great weather - might as well be you and me! We got up to 70 here in NW Florida, low tonight supposed to be 56 - LOVE IT!!!!
