Removing Parquet
Comments (2)Set the depth of your circular saw to the thickness of the plywood and parquet and cut the plywood out. Then replace it. The cost will be insignificant, but the labor savings will be huge....See MoreBlending parquet floors with other flooring
Comments (3)They look to be stained red oak finger parquet. A decent hardwood flooring installer could get a solid wood in there and then stain to match. I would match the species (you are welcome to send away a sample of the wood to a lab that will test for the species = $100 for the results) and then stain to compliment. How long ago were they refinished? Do they need to be refinished in the next 5-7 years? How much wood is left on top? Can they be refinished? If, in the off-chance they CANNOT be refinished, I would IGNORE THEM and then put in wood that you WANT. You will do this KNOWING that the parquet will COME OUT sometime in the next 10 years or so. At that time you will simply bring in MORE of the solid hardwood floor and then have everything sanded/stained all at once. I would get more information about how much more LIFE exists in these parquet floors. They may not have much more left on them. This will dictate how much you TRY to work with them. There's no point in ripping your hair out trying to match them when they need full replacement very soon in the future....See MoreRemoving carpet pad residue on parquet
Comments (0)In preparing a deceased relative's apartment for sale, we removed the decades-old wall-to-wall carpeting to expose the parquet wood floor. The old dried-out, compacted carpet pad was stuck onto the floor in many places, sometimes along with fibrous material from the bottom of the carpet, but we were able to scrape off the thicker areas. But we're still left with lots of residue everywhere, as you can see in the photo. Now we're looking for the easiest way to get that stuff off. We were hoping that we could wash it off, but our experiments with mineral spirits, hydrogen peroxide, and window washing fluid didn't work well. A hot steam iron mostly just flattened the stuff out and spread it around. Any advice? Should we rent a floor buffer? (We realize that the floor should be refinished, but we'd like to leave that to the next owner, since the entire apartment really needs to be updated and remodeled. We're just looking for a DIY solution to get it looking presentable in a way that might be better than re-carpeting.) Also, some of the parquet tiles are loose. What kind of glue should we use to reattach them to the concrete floor, on a high floor of an apartment building?...See Moreparquet floor keep or remove?!
Comments (30)I agree with DavidR, so many historic houses being torn down to put up ultra modern houses. But there is a reason, that is what people want now. It breaks my heart to see. I’m completely redoing my condo although everything is in great shape - it was built in the 90s and everything is a gawd awful pinkish marble art deco look. Do i feel guilty tearing out everything that works just fine but is just ugly? Yes. I don’t think pink tile will ever come back. I don’t think the parquet will either but I could live with it - just not oak. I’d pull them out personally....See Moreforgotten
