Comments (3)labor for wood or laminate is about the same. The variable is floor prep. If the wood and laminate are floating there is minimal floor prep. if you glue down the wood floor prep will be a factor. Vinyl planks if glued down will require floor prep. Comments (1)Of course the easiest way to do what you want to do is to install a different width in the kitchen and use something to act as a transition between the two floors. If the kitchen section will be at the same finished height and you can and want to weave new into the old, then you will have to have oak milled to your 2 1/2" size. Not impossible, but will cost more than factory runs at the usual widths. Comments (5)I can't help you with the installation costs but we refinished our red oak wood floors and were charged $1.64 per square foot. We are in the Chicagoland area. We got a bunch of different estimates all were under $2.00/sq ft. For our steps I think he charged $15 per but I honestly don't remember off hand. He gave us a bit of a discount because we said we would pay with cash. We did not stain them however, it was just sanding and putting the clear coat on. I would have loved to stain a bit darker but Dh won that argument :)...See More- 12 years ago
