If your are using standard prehung door units they come pregapped appx. one inch at the bottom to receive carpet without having to cut off the door slab. If you install the units on top of hardwood there is nothing to take up that gap, unless your trim guy can fashion a way to cut 3/4" off each jamb/casing leg before the unit is set. Even then... trim guys set the hinge side first then either raise or lower the strike jamb to get the correct exposure at the top.... you may have one jamb side sitting up off the floor a bit.

When asked I always request that door units be in place before I get there and I cut the jambs off with a jamb saw. It's going to be harder on the floorguy when sanding but I think it looks immensely better not having that huge gap.

Since I was installing and finishing my own floors, I choose to install them (tile and hardwood) after sheetrock was done, but before painting and trim work. The drywall needed to be touched up in a few places (because of the nailer's hammer). Our drywall guy said that many people install the hardwood prior to drywall and don't even cover it up. Sanding takes care of all the drywall mud and paint, but that idea just seemed really stupid to me. So we did the drywall, installed all the floors, painted, finished floors and then trim.

Wood starts its acclimation 2 weeks after all wet trades(paint tile, plumbing) are finished and the HVAC is up and running 2 weeks prior to bringing the wood in for acclimation. The wood floor should be one of the last things done in the home. The wood acclimates until it is no longer gaining or losing moisture content.

Acclimate to high moisture levels, and expect gapping, acclimate too low, and the floor can cup or worse, buckle come spring or summer.

It is not a "just slap it on the floor" job!

Make sure your new home is acclimated to your 'lived in' conditions before bringing any wood in as Floorguy suggested.
