GORGEOUS 'Woman' in my driveway today...

Welllll.....OK...

Not actually a Woman, but.....holding to the old tradition of naming a Car, Ship, or Plane....in the "Feminine" sense-

There's a beautiful Cranberry-Metallic ("Red-Jewel tintcoat" official color name) 2008 Chevy Impala LTZ in my driveway tonite!!!!

* GM-certified Used-car warranty! FULL B-T-B warranty for a yr.; Free Onstar & XM for the first 3 "teaser" months too.

* Only 17,000 miles....ON A 3 y/o CAR!!!

* Completely clean Carfax. Business-use noted too. SO few miles though!!

* It was just too good to pass up!!

* Good power too...3.9L "3900" V-6, and LOADED....SUNROOF TOO!....THAT I FIT UNDER!!

* Bigger 18" factory wheels that look real cool. Nice Hancook performance tires.

* Cream/tan Leather, and power/heated seats.

Faron's a happy camper now!

Alas....the OPEC-friendly '01 Jimmy is now gone. No more Christmas-Cards from Saudi-Arabia THIS year....

* I SO dearly wanted a CTS, but just couldn't find an '08 that would allow us $$$ to replace DW's car SOONER, rather than later!!

* Would've rather had the chest-thumping, wheel-spinning V-8 Impala SS, but the miles on THIS LTZ were SO low, that I decided to pull the trigger on it.

....kinda miss the 'ol gas-hog Jimmy!....*** sniff *** ;-)

Sounds beautiful, Faron. And the low miles are a real plus! I don't know one car from a hole in the ground usually, but I just had an Impala as a rental after having a 3 car accident on the freeway that left my Camry on a tow truck to a salvage yard. It's a great ride. My DH was reminding me that the really sharp rental we had 3 years ago when we drove the length and breadth of Florida on vacation, was an Impala. Loved that one too.

We had an old-school Impala in my family when I was growing up in the '70s. I have many happy memories of that car-- loved it!

Sunday - Already having to water every day now. Lugging a hundred feet of hose around to water every day is a major drag. (ha ha). I enjoy watering, but dragging the water hose is no fun. The biggest tasks I did today (Sunday) were these: I pulled and dug grass and weeds and old plant debris out of one of the iris beds in the circular garden on the north side. Haven't been able to do that in several years, so it was in bad need of cleaning out. I let the water run and that made the weeds come out much easier and settled the dirt back down while watering them at the same time. There is still a third yet to do to finish that bed, but I had to stop for awhile. I got really hot and tired. When I am done, shredded wood chips mulch will go in there. It looks so much better already. BTW, my bearded irises have buds, so they will be blooming any time now. The minis irises are finished and the dwarfs have been blooming for a week. They a repeat bloomers. Later, I used my old-fashioned cultivator and prepared a twenty-foot bed in the vegetable garden. Then I set out ten of the broccoli plants there. There are probably 30 or more little plants yet to set out (somewhere). I only planted 20 seeds! How did 20 seeds grow 40+ plants? The rest went back into the greenhouse until I can till up a place for them. The soil is great in the vegetable garden this year because of all the manure-hay I put in there last year. I made one-inch collars by cutting paper towel tubes into 1-1/2 inch sections and placed them around each broccoli plant to deter cutworms from chewing through the tiny stems. I do that with tomatoes, cabbage, and peppers too. It works! I cultivated the potato beds - two 20 ft rows, to loosen the soil and then cultivated the path between one row of potatoes and the newly planted broccoli bed. The fern-leaf dill is up behind the broccoli where I sowed it earlier this month. Broccoli benefits from dill. I cleaned out the path along the asparagus bed where I planted the strawberries earlier this month too.(or did I do that in March??). Gotta keep the weeds down before they get away from me and drop seeds. Then I watered everything in there. I cut the lower limbs off the cedars on the east side next to the vegetable garden to allow more air and light into the yard and garden. I can't start the chainsaw (can't yank hard enough), so I had to use my bow saw. Ugh. The cedar branches like to et me up! I am allergic to them. Breaks out with an itchy rash and bumps like poison ivy, only the cedar's oil burns my skin too. Then DH came home and he came out and we hauled all the clippings up to the burn pile. He got out his chainsaw and cut down the big hackberry tree that was leaning over the garden. He cut all the smaller limbs off so I could throw them over the fence where he could drag them up to the burn pile too. Boy, do I hurt all over, but it looks great. Lots of sunshine now for growing tomatoes, okra, corn, beans, cukes and what-have-you. BTW, DH is going to buy me that little tiller so I can cultivate the rest of the garden. (he will probably use it too. He likes playing with gadgets and gizmos) :) Tomorrow, if I can walk, I am planting two rows of bush beans in between the two rows of potatoes. This is to confuse potato bugs when they fly over. It works. Marigolds will be transplanted on each end of the potato rows to help with repelling beetles. Garlic is growing along the other side of the potato rows. The radishes and beets are growing very well as are the onions. More onion sets will go into the garden in May to extend the green onions through summer. The strawberries are blooming and the asparagus are coming up. We will have to finish eating the rest of the strawberries I put up in the freezer last year to make room for this year's crop. Found more Morels today too. Yippee! Discovered that the Liatris bulbs I planted last week are up already. I never grew them before, so am thrilled. It was just such a beautiful day - I did not want to spend it in the house. Hey just got into St. Augustine and had to come to the library FIRST thing and visit my friends. You are ALL so great. What a treat for me to know that you are all here and so supportive. I may be reading into your 'gut,' because I think it agrees with what I like ;-)... But the one with the white/stainless fridge and yellow oven/pantry really speaks to me. I thought having both tall cabs in white somehow chopped up the kitchen and diminished how the yellow grounded the room. And I didn't like them both trying to be matched in either color, because then they connected and took over the room. The oven cabinet looks somehow warmer and homier in color. It creates more of a natural-feeling unfittedness. The oven cab seemed too sterile and modern in the white, and as I said, the yellow bases flow better with it the same color. I know my input is just an opinion, and on just a drawing to boot. It seems you know what you want in your gut, but are 2nd guessing and wanting some kind of sure encouragement. But it's your kitchen, and we'll all have our own preferences. Your choices prove your good eye. I thought I grew past yellow ...used to love its sunny disposition in my bedroom as a teen, but it usually seems too baby shower to me now. So when I just started this thread, I thought "Too much yellow!" But as I read and saw more pics of your choices and how it's all coming together, I really love it all, and am excited to see it finished!! I think a lot of people want to use it and fight against it, at the same time, and you are just "all in." The layering of the yellows work like the white-on-white that's been popular recently, but with a braver twist. I think the 'mistake' with your wall color was a good one. ;-)

@Kristine: I have grown 'Rouletti' for many years and it is not unusual for a specimen of it to remain under 10" tall. Sometimes, under ideal conditions and with the best of care it can sometimes reach a foot or so, but rarely. Mind you, there are several roses in commerce and in collections that appear to be closely related, but distinct in some ways. It is entirely likely that numerous plants exist, having been grown from seed over the decades and presumed by most growers to be the "original" clone. We will never unravel that mystery! http://paulbardenroses.com/minis/rouletii.html Alternatively, your plant may be Moore's 'Pink Joy', dating to 1953. That rose bears a striking resemblance to 'Rouletti' and could easily be mistaken for it. I'm glad you like 'Unconditional Love' :-) It is one of the best miniatures I bred. Thank you.

I learned to drive in an early ('63 or '64 I think)1960s Impala convertible (dark blue with white top). I loved that car. When my father got a new car, he GAVE it to my cousin! I was furious. Would still have it if he had given it to me-of course, it didn't have all the bells and whistles of yours, but it will always be my favorite car-loved the round tail lights.

Congrats on your new baby! Can't wait to see the pics!

I think I'll call her "LuTZ"!!!

'Cuz if ya say the "LTZ" model-designation fast, it sounds like "Lutz", a figure-skating jump of course! Also a nod to DD, the Figure-skater there too...!

The pics are darker than I thought, 'cuz it clouded over around suppertime, and took these pics later. Using flash may have helped, but created glare-blasts.

These Girls are more "High-maintenance", but....Oh my would they be fun!!!! About $200,000 retail for these 3!!

And just think, if you "had" to drive a Caddy around town every day, what fun would Hawaii be next time? (Lol, yes I know, you'd find **some** way to have fun!!)

Please tell me more about the "clay barring" you mentioned. My car is the same color as yours and could use a clay mask from her road rash. And yes, I name my cars too. Mine's name is Ruby (factor color is Merlot). Ruby replaced Black Beauty lol.

Hope you are out driving around with the roof open today!!

I just found out about "Clay-barring" cars this summer, when I was in a Cadillac forum for a while.
GREAT info. there about all kinds of car stuff!

Also...on Youtube, there's a few good videos on the subject. There's some where a guy in Europe is detailing a $1.5 mil. Bugatti Veyron...WOW!

Others get more involved with Porter-Cable 7424 buffers, and polishing bonnets. I may have to get one of those P-C buffers!!
Another good Youtube vid. shows a guy with a 2-light stand doing a door on his black Escalade. I thought it looked great b4 he started, but when he takes ya thru it....WOW!

The Clay-bar stuff itself is SOOO simple. It's like rubbing a Play-doh chunk on your car!
* The kit I got was ~ $23 retail thru ACE.
* It's a Mother's product, with 2 clay-bars, & a spray-bottle of detailing solution.
* Just spray the detailing solution on a section of car, flatten-out your soap-bar sized claybar, and gently rub over the paint! Use the pressure you would for taking a shower. Random motions are fine.
* When you've done an area, wipe/buff off. You'll be amazed at how smooth the paint is!!
* Re-mold/flatten the claybar, and spray another section, and repeat.
* It gets kind of addicting!

Welllllll....croozin' 'round Honolulu in a CTS wouldn't be terrible either....
Wonder if they have CTS's on Kauai @ rental places?! We went to Oahu & Kauai 24 yrs. ago. In '09, it was Oahu & Maui. I'd love to drive a Caddy up to Princeville on Kauai!!

Lol Faron, you are too funny. Thanks so much for the info about clay-barring, I emailed my husband the link to you-tube; I love the results but he'd have to do it!! (The guys he works with wouldnt be too impressed to see a 'gardenweb' link on his computer haha.)

I was just kidding you about driving the CTS everyday; more living vicariously through your dealer pics. I'd rather drive an Escalade too but it's Ford Fusion budget around here. :o)

Just wanted to let you know that today I was in the CTS that I told you about that my friend owns. Hers is black.

She has had the car for maybe three months, and it was in for complete replacement of the dashboard module that shows the sound system information, as well as part of the control panel modules. She got great service from the dealer, but is already questioning her decision to go back to GM cars.

She (and I) are both former employees of GMAC. I left after 8 years, but she retired from there with 30 years of service. Stopped buying GM a few years back, had great experience with Nissan, but saw the CTS and decided to give GM another try. She is wondering if she made a mistake.

Hope that makes you a little less disappointed about not have the CTS.

Sorry to hear her troubles with the CTS...that would be aggravating!
I'm too "GM" to buy anything else. Not sure if that's bad or good....just ME I guess!
(IF your friend wants to sell.....Black you say.....;-)...I'm getting weak in the knees....)
