Did you ever discover yourself in the pages of a book?
Comments (12)Well, I can see you are "pups"! Rueing your lost youth when you are forty?! Wait until your sixties! Then fears and worries are replaced by a sort of dreary grim reality. I admire those women ahead of me who are teaching me by their example how to age sucessfully and live their life fully to the last gasp. I chuckled yesterday in reading the obits ....one beautiful woman was remembered as "leaving this life full of the grace and dignity with which she had lived". Beautiful. Yet I couldn't imagine anyone saying that of me....more probably: She left this life kicking and screaming , trying to wring out the last drop from it! It is especially disturbing to feel that perhaps there are few dreams left to realize.....and worse, that those which have been realized have crumbed to dust through the use and abuse of days. There's an answer out there somewhere.....and I'm not going until I fully understand it!! LOL....See MoreHave you ever recognized yourself in a book?
Comments (6)I wouldn't go so far as to say I recognized myself, but at the time I read Anne Tyler's novel, Back When We Were Grownups, I certainly did share a lot of feelings and attitudes with the main character, Rebecca Davitch. I remember when she expressed the thought that she was living the wrong life, in a strange way I could relate to that - just had never thought of it that way before....See MoreHave you ever told yourself.. "I'm not buying any more Adeniums."
Comments (18)Rick, The last 4 are Tracy's trees. The others I got from a collector in Florida. The pool just has regular screen around it but it blocks out about 50% of the sun. Which is a good thing in Florida. You can tell the difference as soon as you walk outside the screen on the concrete pad. Todd, The babies are in leftover gritty (poultry grit, Turface, Pine Bark Fines) mix that I already had made up with pea gravel on the top. The last 4 are in a mix of GS2, Course Perlite or Pumice, Fir Bark or Coco Chips. I think the BigF is my favorite....See MoreDo you ever treat yourself to something outrageously expensive?
Comments (42)Oh. Well, in that case Bumblebeez, you'll have to sell them all and hope that DC meant white truffles and Beluga. :) Of course, the Birkin was styled after a bag that a lady was carrying on a plane. It's an expensive knock off. :) My mother had one of the original kind, or a cheaper knock off of that.... :) Special requirement foods, like kosher or organic or both, which are for philosophy rather than need, are expensive, but they're another story. It's an overall choice to spend a larger portion of one's wherewithal to get a specific kind of groceries that fit one's way of life. While my university made me learn to hate broccoli (I've gotten over it and can eat it, but won't buy it for myself) because there was a bumper crop and we had horse broccoli 3-4 times per week because it was cheap, a lot of universities now are following student insistence on sustainable agriculture and grown within 100 miles. It's expensive, though they save some costs by going right to the farmer, but they do manage to stick to budgets while feeding the young people according to their philosophy. Some have few clothes and many second hand in order to pay for their food philosophies. That's all about way of life, rather than indulgence of the buy oneself a treat variety....See Moregroomingal
