cost recovery

is there a way to rough figure the cost savings from replacing a 30 year old HVAC system? i was thinking of going with a gas fired central heater and whatever size AC i need, but i may go with a HP instead.

how do i estimate the savings of either type system over what i currently have?

the current heater is electric with several elements. the sticker says it MUST be protected with a minimum 100 amp circuit, so this joker sucks down the juice.

the AC is 4.2 ton.

both are 30 years old, so efficiency is non-existant!

if i can show my wife that replacement would actually lower the electric bill dramatically, she would go for it. other wise she is dead set on spending the money elsewhere.
