All depends upon where you live and what your building and energy codes say. Typically, the glass will have to be tempered glass if the proximity to the floor is less than 18" and the size of the pane is 9 square feet or more. Also, you will likley need low-e, argon fill, and also potentially some sort of coating to control solar heat gain. But again, all this depends upon where you live and what your codes require. Thanks, all! Nosoccermom, we did not paint the doors. We were concerned about that pinkish tint, too, but decided we could always paint in the future if we hated them as they are after installation. As it turns out, they are definitely an off-white, but the pink seems to depend completely on lighting. In natural and direct light, they are warm white but not pink. In dim light, they do take on that pinkish look. We have the white fridge right next to the cabinets, which you can see in a photo I posted above, and in another area there are cabinets adjacent to wainscoting painted with BM simply white. You can certainly see the difference in those locations, but we don't find it jarring. Those spots are the areas where the pinkish tone is most prominent in dim light, though. We didn't replace the fridge, since the old one still works fine, and we are happy enough with the way it looks with the cabinets that we will probably go with white again when this one does need to be replaced. So, I would say to anyone considering these doors, you have to bring a sample home and see how it looks in your home with your lighting to really know how it will look.

The labor cost for the low end material will be somewhat larger than for better quality material. It is extra work trying to figure out how to get the worst of the materials installed. You will also have more waste because there will be junk you just cant use. Even if you are doing the work yourself, your time has value so think about the real total finished cost and figure out how much money you are actually saving . Some people like the utility grade or the shorts but I think it just looks like low end junk. It is going to have splits, holes, warped pieces, uneven finish in spots, and that is just too much extra work for the savings in my opinion. I would spend a bit more money and go for a product that will probably hold up better to the abuse it may get from tenants. I know the heartache of seeing a beautiful, newly installed oak floor that needed refinished after only three years of a destructive tenant.

ReStores are great. Yes, you have to do some sorting and they won't necessarily have what you are looking for the first dozen times you go, but when you DO find something, it's practically a steal. Except tile. They can be a little unreasonable on tile at times, at least the one near where I live is. I usually get better deals looking for stuff to go on clearance at Home Despot. Either way, its a waiting game. As to the color - get some chips and see what you think, then get some samples of your favorite colors and actually paint them on the wall and see what suits you best. Painting it on the walls is the ONLY way to tell for sure what you do/do not like, as you can then see it in all lighting conditions, day and night. My personal preference is for jewel tones which is definitely out of the ordinary - though I have had people tell me they love the colors I use but won't use them themselves because they are afraid of what other people might think. I don't care what other people think! They don't live here! And its just paint. If I sell it and someone doesn't like it, its a couple cans of paint and a few hours work to drab it back down, LOL! Though really here I haven't used a lot of jewel tones, just one turquoise accent wall in the living room and one in the middle bedroom in watermelon. The rest is very "tasteful", where that is defined as neutral edging towards bland, LOL!
