Best glass for doors - low-e laminated or thick laminated?

carriage

Hi-

I need to decide on the glass that will go in a big set of doors-- a three- piece, accordian style carriage house door that opens to the yard). The opening is the size of a one car garage, roughly. The doors are mahogany and each one will have a glass panel approximately 18" x 7'. I know I should use lamnated glass, but should it be low-e argon filled insulated and tempered, or a really thick piece (3/4"??) of laminated glass? I thought the former, but contractor thinks the latter bc it is what is used in commercial doors, he says... Priorities are safety, thermal insulation, sound insulation- in that order. Thanks! Appreciate your help!
