I don't know of any store that would grate it for you. I have the implements to grate my own cheese, by I just buy it already pre-packaged and grated to save that step.

Read the ingredient lists carefully on pre-grated cheese. Some of it is tossed with cornstarch to prevent the cheese from sticking together. The darn stuff never melts as creamy as it should.

Depends if they hav e the equipment. One place I buy will grind ham for me....the other will slice but not grind it.
Also, grated cheese without preservatives won't keep as long as un grated cheese will, and that pregrated cheese is never the same quality as the ungrated cheese I buy.

I have a handy little mini-cuisinart thingy (how's that for precise language?) that fits onto my blender. I just drop a hunk of cheese in there and give a whirl. I don't think it would work on soft cheese like mozzarella. For that, I just use the old fashioned box grater.

We have an upscale deli/butcher shop/bakery in town who will grind cheese at the customer's request. The grinding is done right in front of the customer. Love that service!

Here the italian deli's grind it for you, but not the grocery stores. If you have a FP, go for it. At least teh FP and grate and grind..

Nope, not here. They won't even chip beef at the deli counter anymore... whats up with that!?! To counter the mega store lack of Customer Service I have a box grater, a microplane and even a SaladShooter depending on what kind of cheese and how much I need.

If the grocery has a deli that uses grated cheese or makees take-and-bake pizzas in-house, sometimes they have the equipment and will do it. A lot of places doing take-and-bake pizza now buy pre-grated cheese, though.

Alexa - you can blame Wally World for the lack of butchers in groceries now. They are the ones who started the pre-cut, pre-wrapped, pre-priced thing. No point in paying a real butcher a living wage if you can have some kid stocking the meat at minimum wage.
