Check the pad cord to be sure it is not frayed or damaged in any way. Make sure the pad is UL approved, and you shouldn't have to worry about fire. We have used a pad for our elderly kitty non-stop for months at a time and never had any trouble with it.

Poor kitty. That is so sweet of you to think of her. Hand warmers. I'd never have thought of that one. Good idea.

I soooooo worry about my DS aging 12 year old goldie! She has an igloo, right next to the house, away from the wind, and blankets, but I sill worry about her!

We used to have a doghouse, for our doxies, and exDH put a lightbulb in there to keep them warm.

Glenda..I've thought about a light bulb too...one of those with a cage around it so she wouldn't get burned...

But some of those things I just need a little help with...and I can't get Denny to do anything anymore..

Everything is so hard for him to do since he had that darn stroke.
I think he could do more if he'd make himself. But maybe I'm wrong.

Hi, Cuz!

Our outdoor dogs have had specially made (read "expensive, but chew-proof")bed warmers in their houses for several years. Never had an electrical or other problem with them. We do unplug them during the day as the mfg recommends. I can send you a catalog from the outfit I bought mine from, if the one you're getting doesn't work out.

I've probably missed a bunch of posts. Is this the kitty that disappeared for a while? If so, glad she made it safely home.

Yes Jann that the one...We found her living in the culvert under the road. Down on the corner...which is about a block away..took a long time to coax her back. But I don't allow those dogs to enter or exit that door on the porch anymore...

I just went out there to check on her...and take a replacement hand warmer...

I sewed a little fleece pocket for the handwarmer. I dug under her to find it, took it out of the pocket and that darn thing is still very very warm. That has been over 13 hours.

I had already shook the other one up..so now she has one at both ends..and just as contented as can be...

What a lucky kitty to have you caring for her....We have 3 semi ferals living on our patio/porch and are constantly trying new things to keep them warm. We have an igloo, which they won't go in, we then fixed up an old TV console (straw etc.) but they don't like that, so I put a cardboard box near the door, lined it and put plastic on the outside and then covered it with a blanket...Inside, we have a couple fleecy blankets and a Snuggle Safe..It's funny to open the door and see 1 at a time come out of their "home"...All 3 look like little bears, they are so fat and furry....It is a worry when the temps go so low.....

I'd kick them dawgs outta my house and bring my cat in.

We keep three heating pads for our outdoor animals, patti.
One is a certified pet heating board and it's in the barn for Ruby. The cord is wrapped in coiled wire and the pad itself is hard plastic. Regular heating pads are on the decks. Ruby and the cats use them a lot. I check them all frequently for any overheating, frayed wires, etc.

Any place out of the weather will keep your kitty warm and comfortable. I've learned that water and food is as important to outside animals in cold weather as shelter. I use heated water bowls to keep the water from freezing. During cold spells, like now, I feed Ruby puppy chow and Kitty and KittyKitty extra food. The colder it is the more calories they burn to stay warm. If a bowl happens to get empty my cats like to curl up in it....LOL

Please don't use a light bulb for heat for kitty. I just read where a litter of puppies died in a fire caused by a heat lamp in a barn.
I, too, would kick those dawgs out and let kitty sleep in her house.

I keep my two cats indoors all the time, but one sleeps on a chair with a knitted shawl and the other sleeps on the floor on top of her favorite stuffed toy-a big plush lion.

Here I am dragging along a mile behind everyone else. So glad you got the kitty back. Our neighbor's cat visits us--we call her Miss Mambo. She's all black. Her last two "stunts" have been getting "treed" on top of a storage shed, and really treed in a cottonwood in our back yard. She hopped across from the branch to the porch roof, which my loft opens onto. She likes being rescued because I take her through the house to our front yard, and she gets to look around--little stinker!

My two indoor kitties have heating pads~~we have had one for years for our older cat when we got the kitty he had to have one too to stop fights. We have two couches in the family room and they each have a spot:)
