Comments (3)Your slab needs to ne scarified to remove all traces of adhesives and setting compounds (there are machines that will do that) and then tested for the amount of moisture passing through it. You will then be able to know what condition the slab is in and what you may have to do to make it acceptable for new flooring. You can also test for moisture content before doing anything major to the thing....See MoreNeed to cry....almost at the end of remodeling...
Comments (9)Thank y'all sooo much!!! Check out some of the remodel on HD page...I feel reenergized to get these final steps completed because I spent yesterday with her and this morning she came out of surgery cracking jokes! She's in a great deal of pain..the surgeon said it was adenocarcinoma and if she had come in 2 months later it would have been a different outcome...he feels he was able to remove all affected parts but had to go in through her back/underarm and chest to get it..she'll be in ICU for 2-3 more days then a private room...he'll get the results back to make sure all perimeter cells are clean by Friday....we are going to bust our tails with these last inspections (big one tomorrow) and start moving household goods in each trip out there..Friday the kids and I will go visit her if she's out of ICU...they don't let kids go in ICU so we spent 5 hours with her the night before...my kids are just precious things..they prayed with my grandma and reminded me that God had control of her...wow...don't think I had that clear thinking at their age..just knowing she made it through and is being watched over by all her family/friends makes me feel energized to take on the end of this house..I am so hoping she'll come to her "blue" room to stay with us to recuperate..her room at home is the same shade of blue and I hoped it would make her feel at her home..she's lived in the same house for over 60 years! My fondest memories of growing up were on her farm, and that's really been my inspiration to buy this farmhouse...I want my children to live those summers I cherished for the rest of their time home...having her to take care of would just be a blessing!! She'll teach me how to can vegetables and put up jellies! :) Thanks for your prayers!!! Tara...See MoreWood Floors Don't Match: Stall Project or Refinish Later?
Comments (17)@zorroslw1 LOL I hear ya, I'm not too far from the edge myself, but I think this particular issue may actually leave me be! @grapefruit1_ar Thanks for your kind words! And to everyone else for chiming in! A small update: My renovation project manager came over to my apartment yesterday to discuss loose ends (house call on a Sunday... thank god he lives a 20 minute walk from me—plus, what a good dude!). There are a few blonde planks feathered into the hallway that are next to some much darker pieces. He agreed the floor guy should've chosen better pieces for the transition so they'll be replacing those. But cherry picking blonde planks throughout the kitchen floor and replacing them is going to be a bigger deal because they're locked together at the ends and stapled down (maybe he said glued down? I can't remember). So that's a no go and I'm fine with that. Anyway, I'm already feeling a trillion times better. I'm sure a slight nagging feeling will bubble up now and again, but I know those feelings (like the floor color!) will fade in time....See MoreIs replacing the tile in this foyer to wood worth the expense?
Comments (27)Thanks everyone so much. I really appreciate all the input. I still think I need to get in there, paint, and get my stuff in and then decide what to tackle first. Usually, I would never even consider a house that had a major thing like this that I knew would bug me until we changed it, and yet here I am. I'm considering it my penance :) and look upon it as a challenge. I will be sure to post some pics when I start making some changes. Thanks so much groveraxle. I was trying to visualize what it might look like to try to camouflage with rugs. I was thinking however more of a sisal/sea grass/jute textured solid neutral color type of rug just to minimize the contrast of the white tile next to the wood floors, but not have the rugs themselves make any kind of statement. I would just want them to be a backdrop to hide the tile -- if that is even possible. I'll have to get in there and see....See MoreUser
