I'm weird, I guess - I rarely wear my ring. DH and I were "shacking up" at the time, and one day I told him in no uncertain terms that if I was to keep living with him, I ought to at least have an engagement ring, for heaven's sake. He agreed. We were poor folks, and I had a credit card, so we shopped and put my engagement ring on my credit card. Romantic, huh? We bought the kind that fit into the wedding ring, which we bought at the same time, but he kept that in a box in his dresser. The engagement ring had one "big" diamond and one "small" diamond, and the wedding ring had the other "small" diamond to mirror the engagement ring. They're not worth more than $200 all together, but who cares? I'm not a materialistic person. We've got diamonds and rings. About 2 years later, we had a modest, but very nice wedding. I got the two rings soldered together. We bought a plain gold band for him. He wears his every day, and after these 9 years, he can't take it off without a lot of effort and hasn't really tried. I got out of the habit of wearing mine during my 1st pregnancy when my hands swelled. I bought a plain gold band to wear instead, and would wear it as a wedding ring now (it'd have to be re-sized) but he says no, it's not our wedding ring. I find the diamond stuff gets in the way, and I only wear it when I go out somewhere special or care that people see that ring on my finger. As I said, I'm not a materialistic person. We could afford to get bigger diamonds now, I guess, but who cares? Why spend all that money on a freakin' rock?

My daughter got married 3 yrs ago. She had the Wedding Binder. Had notes, receipts, plans, fabric samples, pictures of anything to do with wedding. We shopped in 7 different cities looking for the perfect shade of blue with the look/feel/drape of what she wanted. We finally found it... She was so organized she laid out everything she had purchased, sorted it out, took a digital photos, numbered the tote box, wrote where in the maze of totes it was located, (color coordinated, of course ;) and had those picture pages in her binder. There was every phone number, name of sales clerk,subject, etc. that she had conversations with along the way... Of course the wedding and reception was perfect, and the worst that happened, was my umbrella getting sent home with her MIL. I should only wish that the genes would reverse to me!!! Now that she has her first child, (Audry Olivia- 8 wks old) she has the Building the House Binder. She spent a year designing it, and now has nearly all of the things ready to go into it as soon as the Men People get it ready! Of course when I ran into her in the store a couple weeks ago, the House Binder was right beside her diaper bag. I have a feeling that when she returns to work this week, the Binder will come along also. I hope that Baby is so blessed with the organization that her Mommy has!

So glad it is off- my uncle had to have his removed at the hospital. Had not taken it off in 20 years and he had gain a "bit" of weight. Took about three months fro the fat on his finger to smooth back out. Janie

Assuming this isn't an emergency (circulation is fine, you just can't get it off), I would take a diuretic (NOT if you have any health problems). Don't mess with the ring for 12-18 hours. Then lube your hand up good (cooking oil will work) or try the Windex. I worked in a jewelry store years ago and cut off a few rings. Assuming the person knows what they are doing it is a clean cut. There is a little piece that slides under the ring and the saw piece slides into that, back and forth. But they need to slightly stretch apart the cut opening to get the ring off (or makes two cuts, cutting a piece cleanly off to relieve the pressure). The biggest issue is with rings that have patterns all the way around and rings with channel set stones. It works even on very swollen fingers. I cut a ring off a finger that had been stung by a few bees. The finger was huge and circulation was restored as soon as the cut was made.
