Where to put my towel ring?

I've redone my powder room but cannot figure out where to mount the towel ring. Its a small room. I put colored O's as the three options (that I can see). I'm sort of against the first wall (red) b/c that puts the towel in the range of the toilet and I have unnatural fears of flushing "mists".

The other option is the short wall where there is a 3 switch lightplate there. The chair rail is about 32 inches. We have small kids. My husbands wants to put it to the right in the open blank spot (blue) but it seems awkward to lean over the vanity some, dont you think? He thinks it looks dumb in my preferred place (black) :-) I need Switzerland to weigh in. There are 9 inches on each side of the vanity.

Before you make a decision, take a towel and hold it up to the wall. I'm not sure from the picture, but you may find that your preferred location is too low and the towel will drag on the top of the vanity.

Why not to the right or left of the vanity, on the same wall? That seems the most natural place. That's where mine are in my teeny-tiny powder room.

Linelle Once again, you rescued me regarding my hand towel issue with your experience. :):) I have exactly the same layout and was debating between 2 single rod/ 1 double rod/ 1 single rod and 1 ring next to each other. I don't know where they should go but I like it that you are fixing the walls to to handle the fixtures after the walls go up. I have never had a towel ring but they look like they would be under a lot of stress & torque as one tries to pull the towel off, unless the ring swings left and right to accommodate the side pull. I like hooks and bars. If you put a bar by the tub I would put one that was actually a grab bar for safety. They have many nice looking ones. I have seen chrome plated ones in several designs. As I was as my DS's house taking a shower and drying off while standing in the beautiful claw foot tub/shower, I needed some help with balance and I put my hand on some mounted shelving, not thinking. As I eventually wobbled I put too much weight on the shelve and down it came, braking the nice decorations that DIL had up. So, in my remodel I will have only grab bar worthy fixtures near the tub for safety :)

I mixed it up for different reasons. Master bath: hooks near shower & tub for bath towels, rings for hand towels @ sink. I'm really, really, really loving the hooks for the bath towels. I used double hooks, and I like that I can drape a towel over both "prongs" to help open it up for drying. Don't actually take the hand towels off the ring unless I'm swapping them for clean ones, so the rings are fine. Guest bath: towel bar at sit-in shower for bath towels, smaller towel bar at sink for hand towels. This was more of a space issue. It was a very typical "galley" type bathroom layout. I went with double towel rods so that each guest (generally my parents) could have two towels without taking up the entire wall. Hooks would have worked, too, but I wanted to be able to fold them over something and free up some wall space. The shorter towel bar at the vanity allowed space for two guest hand towels to reside on one wall, without taking up counter space. Half bath: Open ring for hand towel (because it was the best looking option that came in my faucet's line, and I wanted them to match). :) Hollywood bath (DD's): No towel bar, rings for hand towels. Her shower area is small and the only wall that would fit a towel bar is the wall the door opens up against. I didn't want to have to choose between open door or dry towels. So I bought an over the door hook, and really cute coordinating towels.

Hi Katherine, I agree that the towel ring would be most functional and accessible on the narrow wall between the shower and the vanity. It's a little bit low but still functional. The other option you could pursue, only if you were interested in replacing the existing knob, is to get an appliance sized version of the pull and install it on the right lower cabinet instead of the knob. The appliance pull will allow enough space to hang a towel. This will eliminate the need for a towel ring and make the towel closer to the sink. Hope this helps!

Another "before you make a decision" suggestion: Towel rings stick out pretty far. You don't want to put it anywhere a child could bump her/his head or anywhere that juts out into a place a person would be standing or sitting.

I think I would like near the pink O but closer to the mirror, more in line with the vanity. I think it will look a little out of place way out there between the perpendicular wall (the vanity wall) and the toilet.

i think i would go to the right of the vanity...on the same wall with a ring/hook.
another option would be to buy several(many!?) fingertip size towels and fold them on side of vanity...easy to change out, easy to fold when the kids leave them in a heap, might be less likely to end up on floor...with small kids reaching up and leaving the towel slightly on the ring, fighting with gravity!

I might put a nice countertop towel ring. Or as busybee3 said folded fingertip towels. With kids, I'm thinking atleast 50% of the time you will find the towel on the floor. One other option is to put a small towel through that lovely drawer pull on your vanity. I realize getting the doors on the bottom might be an issue but how much do you really get in there execpt for TP.
