I am putting in a Kohler cast iron shower pan tray then tiling the walls and using Laticrete epoxy grout. Wish me luck on the grout :) I didn't want to fuss with trying to tile a floor. I am happy with my decision. Cat-mom has a kohler pan in place and it looks nice. They come in 3x4 and 3x5 sizes. So the larger fits a standard alcove tub site. I found this bi-level reducer is very nice and smooth transition from solid 3/4" wood floor to tile. Hope this will help.

The floor in front of and under my vanity and in my shower is a gold onyx mosaic tile. I've had it in for about 6y and haven't had any issues at all with staining. The grout on the other hand is another issue altogether. It had to be sealed before it was grouted though. When it was first installed, it was so beautiful before it was grouted, then turned into a cement-looking mess afterwards. They had to tear it all out and start over again. That was a really expensive mistake. I've sealed the shower floor several times since then, but that was really only to do the grout, not because I was concerned about the tile. Its also weathered many, many (many) applications of X14 too. I never want to have grout on a shower floor again or at least not that much.

The main problem I read when deciding is that people have put it in damp basements and had problems with the adhesive. Those were do-it-yourselfers who didn't understand the product. Or they've put it in kitchens with barstools scraping against it and got some scratches. Those aren't problems in a bathroom. I don't wear shoes in the guest bath so I expect it will outlive me. It is not nearly as cold as ceramic tile for bare feet. I don't find it cold at all but it's not subzero where I live. You'd save the expense of having underfloor heating installed. Have you priced that? Alterna does have limestone as one of the wear layers, which makes it a stronger floor than sheet vinyl. Of course it won't take the wear and tear of ceramic tile, but the life expectancy is at least 20 years. DuraCeramic is Congoleum's brand. As for price, we had ours installed by the flooring store. Total cost for materials and installation was $700. We do have some tiles left over but plan to use the same floor in the master bath. Ceramic tiles are sold by the box too.
