Small bags of caramel corn and chex mix seem to go well at our bake sales, but truthfully, it is the chocolate chip cookies, the cupcakes and the brownies that seem to sell the best. Especially, for some reason, frosted brownies or anything with M&Ms on it.

Small fruit filled tarts might be nice, sort of like homemade pop tarts and all the girls friends liked homemade peanut butter cookies with M&Ms. Yes, those M&M are a recurring theme, I guess.

Oh, and rice krispie treats, especially the ones made with peanut butter and topped with chocolate, or the peanut butter ones made with chocolate krispies, the girls called them "cocoa peanut logs".

Gooey cinnamon rolls fly off the tables here at our church bake sales as do cut-out decorated sugar cookies using those large 6-7" cutters. The Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls are very good & easy to make. Also, the recipe makes a large quantity - I got 42 rolls - enough for 7 of those throw away round foil pans. I'd sell individual rolls though rather a whole pan.

Need sticky, chewy and chocolatey all in one bite? These no-bake
bar cookies have it all!

Prep: 5 min - Cook: 5 min - Cool: 15 min

Nonstick cooking spray
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
6 cups toasted rice cereal
1 2/3 cups (11-ounce package) NESTLÃ TOLL HOUSE Butterscotch Flavored Morsels
1 cup (6 ounces) NESTLÃ TOLL HOUSE Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

COAT 13 x 9-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

COMBINE peanut butter, sugar and corn syrup in large saucepan.
Cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until melted.
Remove from heat. Add cereal; stir until thoroughly coated.
Press onto bottom of prepared baking pan.

MICROWAVE butterscotch morsels and semi-sweet chocolate morsels
in large, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power
for 1 minute; STIR. Morsels may retain some of their original
shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10- to 15-second
intervals, stirring just until smooth. Spread over cereal mixture.

REFRIGERATE for 15 to 20 minutes or until topping is firm. Cut
into bars.

Makes 30 bars

Lemon Bars disappear fast amongst the high school crowd here.

So do Potato Chip cookies.

Here's another one, Mudhen Bars, that sells good, too. And bars are so much quicker and easier, IMHO, than cookies.

Mud Hen Bars (From an old regional cookbook I have)

Ingredients:
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 whole egg
2 eggs, separated
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup nuts, chopped
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup miniature marshmallows
1 cup light brown sugar, packed

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°.
Cream shortening, butter, and sugar; beat in whole egg and two egg yolks. In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt together; combine flour mixture with creamed mixture, blending thoroughly. Spread batter in greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle nuts, chocolate chips and marshmallows over batter. Beat the two egg whites stiff; fold in brown sugar; spread over top of batter. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool then cut into bars. Makes about 32 bars - delicious warm or cold.

It's been several years since I've made these, don't remember if the yield count here is accurate or not.

I agree with Annie -- chocolate chip cookies and brownies are top sellers and they are always the first to go.

Magic Cookie Bars

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 cups semisweet chocolate morsels
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions
1.Heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees for glass dish). Coat 13x9-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.

2.Combine graham cracker crumbs and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan. Pour condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Sprinkle with chocolate chips, coconut and nuts. Press down firmly with a fork.
3.Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into bars or diamonds. Store covered at room temperature.

Scotcheroos will fly off the table like Teresa mentioned.

This is a good and different cookie recipe that the kids in my group like. If nothing else the name should catch their attention. Some of the kids here call them Fat Daddy Cookies...LOL

The recipe is from Marlen, she died several years ago but she is still here in spirit with her wonderful recipes. Not to forget some of her funny stories/tales.

Marlen's Chubby Hubby Cookies
2 cups butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
2 large eggs
2 Tablespoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 12 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 12 oz pkg peanut butter chips
1 cup salted peanuts
2 cups crushed pretzels*

Preheat oven to 350* degrees. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Blend into creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate and peanut butter chips, peanuts and pretzels. Drop by heaping tablespoons about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. bake 10-13 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned and centers are still soft. Do not overbake. Cool one minute on cookie sheet. Cool completely on wire racks. Store tightly in covered container.

Note from Marlen: The pretzels should be about the size of the chocolate chips, not pulverized. You want to taste bits of pretzel as you munch. This is a crunchy cookie. I use a food processor and just pulse until the desired size is achieved.

For bake sales, my favorite is a Jelly Roll. It can be sliced down and the slices wrapped in Seran Wrap for selling the individual slices.....or the complete jelly roll can be sold, as you would a complete cake.

Thinking I copied this recipe from one of the food forums.

Mexican Munch

1 3-oz. can French-fried onions
3 c. bite-size shredded corn squares (CRISPEX)
3/4 c. Spanish peanuts
1 4-oz. can potato sticks
1/4 c. butter (or oil)
1 t. taco seasoning mix

In a 13x9x2-inch baking pan, combine onions, cereal, peanuts, and potato sticks. Melt butter over low heat; drizzle over mixture in baking pan and stir well. Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over mixture, mixing well. Bake in 300°F oven for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Allow to cool. Makes about 8 cups.

PEANUT SITTING PRETTIES

1/2 Cup Margarine
1/4 Cup Firmly Packed Brown Sugar
1 Egg, separated
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Cup All Purpose Flour
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
Finely Chopped Nuts
1 Can Vanilla Creamy-type Frosting
M&M Peanut Candies

Blend Margarine and Brown Sugar until creamy. Add Egg Yolk and Vanilla and mix until lightened. Sift in Flour and Salt and mix well. Chill one hour. Roll into 1" balls, dip into slightly beaten Egg White. Roll in chopped Nuts and place 1" apart on baking sheet.

Bake in preheated 350 o F oven for 5 minutes. Press thumb gently into center of each cookie. Bake an additional 5 minutes. When completely cooled, Fill with Frosting and top with M&M.

Muffins always go over well, especially if the sale is in the morning. And they can be a good way to "sneak" some healthy stuff into the kids, too! LOL

Here is a favorite that was originally posted several years ago by Debbie. I brought these to work and one of the younger gals claimed they were the best muffins she ever had! LOL

Empire State Muffins

2 cups shredded, unpeeled apples
1-1/3 c sugar
1 c chopped cranberries
1 c chopped carrots
1 c chopped walnuts or pecans
2-1/2 c AP flour
1 T baking powder
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c vegetable oil

In large mixing bowl, combine apples and sugar. Gently fold in cranberries, carrots and nuts. Combine dry ingredients, add to mixing bowl. Mix well to moisten dry ingredients. Combine eggs and oil, stir into apple mixture. Fill greased muffin tins 2/3 full. Bake at 375F for 20-25 minutes. Cool 5 minutes before removing from tins.

Makes 2 dozen

My no bake cookies go really fast, I don't know why, they are so easy to make. I use my mother-in-laws recipe, it calls for chocolate chips instead of cocoa and I use an ice cream scoop to make really big cookies and individually wrap them. One dad is so cute, he always buys extra and eats one each morning for his breakfast. I can post the recipe in a bit. :)

I don't know if someone is already making these, but I think rice krispie treats are irresistible, to adults and teenagers alike.

Based on past comments here on this forum, don't make anything "fancy". Stick to the tried and true - chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, cupcakes, brownies, rice crispy bars. Kids this age rarely eat out of their comfort zone (and apparently neither do their parents).

Sticky buns....made in those mega muffin tins...individually wrapped.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Since DS helped with the baking, he was in on the decision. We went with the lemon bars this time.
I am saving these recipes for future bake sales, we have them on a regular basis. They all sound so good and my boys would like to try the scotcheroos this weekend!
