Feedback wanted on Tempur pedic pillows

I am thinking of getting a tempur pedic pillow for my husband; he often complains of neck pain in the morning, he also has degenerative disc disease and arthritis in his back. Anyone have one?

I don't have one but met a woman on our cruise who has one and says she never has problems with her neck now that she uses the tempurpedic pillow.
I have a buckwheat hull pillow that really helps my arthritic neck.

I have one and feel that it's helped me a lot. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and at one point, was having a lot of stiffness in my neck. The pillow is expensive, but I sometimes take it when I travel as it does squish down. You may also want to google the alt.support.arthritis newsgroup, as there have been discussions on this.

Dedtired, I guess I missed your original comment...would you mind repeating it? (I'm always wondering what I missed...) I'm happy to say that after a serious ''breaking in'', I'm in love with my bed. (Yes, they really do need to be broken in.) It did take a bit of getting used to, but I expected as much, and now I don't want to sleep anywhere else. I will say that the extra pillow top was the thing that made this particular one work best for me, but dlynn, if your son likes the cheapest bed, that's the one he'll be happy with. Remember...they're already broken in at the store, but won't be when it first arrives. (I bought a namebrand, ''Celebrity'' Tempur-Pedic.) Jessy, I'm sorry you're not in love with yours. I suspect it's hard to compromise on...firmness...when two people share a bed. ;)

Your symtoms are mine, too . . . exactly! I have three that I use, depending on how I'm feeling that night before I go to bed. #1 is a low, squishy down pillow that's fabulously soft, but not very lofty anymore. I bunch that one partially under my neck and the rest under my head. This one is my favorite, but because I have to sleep with my forearm under it to give me the height I need under my neck, it's causing me some residual shoulder joint problems now. #2 is a lofty, semi-firm down pillow. Most of the time this one works for me although occasionally, the edge of this one pops back up in my face and makes me feel claustrophobic. I have to sleep towards the very edge of it to avoid this happening. I'm seriously contemplating taking this one apart and pulling out some of the down to make it fit my needs better. #3 is one of those contoured Tempur-Pedic ones. If my neck is already bothering me, this is the pillow I sleep on. Each of it's two sides has it's own different hump (for lack of a better word). One is perfect for my neck and I sleep wonderfully on it, although I'd love for it to be topped with a nice soft layer of down. DH calls it my "lead brick pillow" and complains that I sometimes pick it up and move it in my sleep, causing the whole bed to shake and waking him up thinking we're having an earthquake (LOL!). I wish that there was one, ideal pillow that I/we could use. Mine would be a contoured one with a soft layer of down on top. I've tried topping my own contoured one with my thin-ish down pillow, but the result is too high for my neck. I'm also considering taking apart one of my extra down pillows and making my own thin pillow topper to use on top of the contoured one. I'm anxious to read if someone here has found one that might work for me, but until then I'll be rotating my own three pillows. Lynn

Count me in on not appreciating the T-P pillow - we got two free when we bought the bed. I returned them and talked the dealer into knocking $100 off the price of the bed instead. Because we're both stomach/side sleepers (I tend to sleep half on my side and half on my stomach, DH goes back and forth) the "contour" pillows don't work very well, and the one that is shaped like a regular pillow was just very heavy and hard. I always woke up with a sore ear. I wonder if it's because my head doesn't generate enough heat to really soften the pillow like my body does on the bed? I too couldn't put my arm under the pillow because of the weight. Make sure you purchase from a place with a good return policy and no restocking fees. Instead, I buy cheap fiberfill pillows and donate them to the SPCA when they've gotten mashed/matted down - usually two or three pair a year. I can squash those into just the right shape. Unless I'm forced to by something like surgery, I just cannot sleep on my back; being an insomniac, if everything isn't Just Right, including the positioning, fuhgetaboudit. In 2 of my 3 sleep studies they made me sleep on my back and it was miserable. I could only do it by putting the head of the hospital bed up 45 degrees so I couldn't turn over. ellen, if your husband is having a hard time with the CPAP and has mild to moderate apnea, hopefully next year the FDA will approve a new machine that uses a cannula (the little thing with the prongs under the nose like they use to deliver oxygen in the hospital) at much lower pressure. It's called "TNI", Treatment with Nasal Insufflation. I tried CPAP (one of those "for lack of anything else to do we'll try this to see if it does anything" routines) at my last sleep study and it was so awful that there was no way I was going to drop a pile of cash on this ultimate anaphrodisiac! (My insurance will only pay 80% for the most basic machine and one mask per year; if you want a better machine, different masks/pillows, or accessories you have to pay for it.) I saw an article about the TNI machine in the last Fibromyalgia Network newsletter and I'd be willing to give that a shot because there's no uncomfortable "hosehead" with bulky masks.

The ones at bbb are talalay latex and they are good quality mine have held up very very well. For the difference in price I will definitely go with them. I did buy the king size ones and I did buy the claritin zipper covers for them because I have bought those before and like them. The zipper cover that comes on them is fine, 100% cotton, I just like the other better. In general if they are the solid latex with the little holes in them they are going to be talalay latex or a mix of that and dunlop which is also ok. But I did research the actual manufacturer of those at bbb and found their info. I however have since totally forgotten who it was lol. Slept since then. Some info about latex "So what exactly is the difference between Talalay latex and Dunlop latex? And this is in some ways the wrong question to ask. Both are different methods for preparing latex – not different “types” of latex. In other words, you can take the same source of latex and produce either Dunlop or Talalay from that source, depending on the method. A much better question to ask is “Is the latex you use in your mattresses 100% natural?” A common misconception is that Dunlop is the ‘natural’ latex, and ‘talalay’ is synthetic latex. Not entirely true. Because both methods can either be 100% naturally derived, a blend of natural and synthetic materials, or all synthetic (a man-made copy of natural latex.) The reality is that neither is superior to the other. They’re just different methods. Dunlop tends to be denser, which makes it slightly firmer than Talalay. Talalay creates a more pillowy-soft feel. Both are great and work very well, and tend to work very well together, such as when using a Dunlop bottom layer and a Talalay top layer." I always had neck and shoulder pain (mild, but it was always there) until I got a Tempurpedic pillow. Using it the very first day was like turning point in my life! Now DH also has one and he loves it too. We're now thinking about the mattress.

I think we will try one. There are two or three different kinds: one is made up of tiny little pellets of foam, and I think one targets sleep position for spine alignment, and I think there is one specifically for neck and spine problems. We must have 15 different pillows around here that we have tried over the past few years that have not worked out.

Concerning beds: We were strongly considering a tempurpedic mattress a couple of years ago, but DH is a night sweater and we didn't think it would be the best match. I had had such a problem with pressure points at my hips that I could not sleep comfortably, we bought a Healthy Choice Comfortaire bed, which has a layer of memory foam on the top, and that has worked very well.

I've had a mattress for a couple of years and love it. My uncle, who suffers from MS, got one and it did wonders for him. I have another friend with MS and it helped her tremendously, too. Other friends have also bought one and love it. I have a pillow that I like OK but I think it may be too big. I have what must be the medium one and am thinking of trying a small. But the mattress is incredible.

I have a pillow made by Sleep Innovations. My daughter bought it for me at Costco and it cost quite a lot less than the TempurPedic. I love it! Before I got it, I would routinely wake up with a sore neck and back. Now, I never have any pain in those areas.

I have one and I love it....I have had it a couple years now and they have got cheaper in price that when I bought it.....I can't remember the brand of mine. I take it when we travel to......DH has a regular pillow.

I have a memory foam bed and LOVE it. I would never sleep on anything else. I also have a tempur pedic pillow and must use it for my neck pain. Both have helped me a great deal. Yes, the bed is warm, but you will get used to it.

I ordered a dreamer evolution pillow about a month ago and loved it. If you are having neck pain this is the one to go with. It was a lot lighter then tempuredic and is about half the price. Does a better job of contouring to the neck and head as well. U may want to consider before going with tempurpedic

I don't have a Tempurpedic pillow, but I want to get one. My daughter and her SO have a Tempurpedic mattress and love it. I can't afford one.

I have the authentic temperpedic and it goes where I go, can't leave home without it. Do not buy a cheaper copy, they don't have the viscosity that the dense foam has and that's what's needed to cradle the neck. I bought a lesser one and it was awful. I also have a 4 inch temperpedic mattress on my bed and it's pure heaven. Since then I've put them on all the mattresses in the house. If you do buy one it has to be a 4 pound density to even come close to comparing with Temperpedic brand.
