Is your room cold? They soften up with warmth. Your body should be enough, though.

I can't use them, peri-menopausal very warm sleeper here and I get way too warm.

Is the room cold? Well, we keep it cool so I can sleep. The ''foam feel'' is familiar as we used to have a foam mattress years ago. But this is miles from the soft, cushy mattress in the store that I didn't want to climb off of, and I think there's a certain amount of ''breaking in'' required.

I'm just wondering...It's going to take some time to get used to. I'm a ''warm sleeper'' too Barnmom! The good news is I'm getting my frustrations out by beating on the mattress with the baseball bat!

Gotta say that my impression is that the one of the *selling points* of the tempur-pedic mattreses is that they *don't* "break in"... While temperature of the room could make a difference, as it isn't winter time it seems unlikely to have made that big a difference now... If it actually feels that dramatically different from the store, I would take it up with them -- beating it with a baseball bat shouldn't be necessary nor should it be effective, given what they say about the nature of these mattresses...

fearlessem, it's more a matter of it being really stiff, whereas the store model was much...looser. The salesman told me they walk all over the new ones to loosen them up a bit.

I don't know, but I would love to see a picture of you beating the bejeezus out of a mattress with a baseball bat!

Aw shucks, Pam, maybe I can get dh to snap one for you! I will say, that bed looks like the top of a table...We could set it with full wineglasses and do the bounce test! I feel certain they would stay put.

Just a thought but don't the Tempur-Pedic's come in various models ranging firmness? Are you sure you ended up with the exact one?

eandhl, yes, I got the one I wanted. There are very specific differences in each mattress, and I was Goldilocks trying out all of them. Last night, I noticed a very slight (probably imperceptible but it seemed a tad looser to me) difference after beating up my mattress three times yesterday. They told me at the store, it would take 30 days to ''break it in'', which probably also means the transition time it's going to take me to get used to it. I refused to be disappointed in this YET, while I keep remembering the mattress I really loved there. I keep repeating to myself, ''Good Things Come to Those Who Wait...and wield a baseball bat often!''

I have had a tempurpedic for over 5 years. It took me over a week to adjust to it. I now can't imagine life without it. I am currently living with family and having to sleep on a horrible box spring, I miss my bed more than ever. Well here is my helpful insite. It will only work however if you have a model with a removeable cover. ie not a pillow top model. Take the cover off and just put a sheet on it. This will make the mattress softer as well as cooler in the summer. It really does make a difference. Hope it works. Just don't give up you will definitly fall in love soon.

I appreciate the encouragement itwo222! Last night my dh walked all over my side of the bed, and it's definitely loosening up. I'm liking it better all the time, and think this is what it's going to take. It's his ''job'' to do this every night 3 times before he gets into bed, and I think I'll be Goldilocks again very soon. (I did get a pillowtop model, but I'm not finding it too uncomfortably warm yet. It helps that I'm on the downward slide of ''heating up and night sweats''.) I'm able to get him to do this for me since he really loves the mattress already and doesn't want to give it up. I do generally have the ceiling fan going at ''wind gust speed'', which helps I'm sure!

Hi Jessy! Well...it's loosening up noticeably, but isn't quite ''there'' yet. There is a difference between my side and dh's, so I know it's beginning to break in. I didn't expect ''bed walking'' to be part of the deal, but whatever it takes, you know? I am finding it to be more and more comfortable, so I imagine there will come a time when I fall in love. I'm growing, but not falling just yet! Are you looking at one of these?

No kidding about the leg exercise! I prefer dh to walk on it (of course I do), since he has Much bigger feet! (Although I probably make a denser impact with my little feet, but it's better than a baseball bat.) It's getting better, but we haven't had it a month yet. I notice it's fine now around the butt/back area, but would like it looser around my feet and ankles. Please let me know when you start noticing a difference with yours; I appreciate any ''support'' about my support IYKWIM!

Which one did you get?

It's now been several months, can you give me an update? I'm thinking of getting one for my son (he's agreed to give up the futon/bunkbed combination). If I get one of the Tempur-pedics for him I can try it out before getting it for me. Did you get a name brand one or a cheaper, generic one? I'm thinking of getting my son the cheaper one. We went looking at them today and he liked the cheapest one the best. Not sure how it will hold up though. I haven't researched it enough to know if there are any differences. Do you have any input on this?

I was just asking hubs the exact same question.

He still isn't happy with it. I have a foam mattress topper and padded matress cover on my side.

That being said, he does notice that his back no longer hurts, and that alone is worth the price of the bed. I think we bought one that was too hard.

I think Tempurpedic memory foam is overrated and over priced. I'd look at latex mattresses.

We don't have a full on mattress..we have the topper which sits on a pillow topped mattress. I think it's time for a new topper or a new mattress or both..We flip ours, rotate them every few months..

I think I want a feather bed topper instead...

I'm happy to say that after a serious ''breaking in'', I'm in love with my bed. (Yes, they really do need to be broken in.) It did take a bit of getting used to, but I expected as much, and now I don't want to sleep anywhere else. I will say that the extra pillow top was the thing that made this particular one work best for me, but dlynn, if your son likes the cheapest bed, that's the one he'll be happy with. Remember...they're already broken in at the store, but won't be when it first arrives. (I bought a namebrand, ''Celebrity'' Tempur-Pedic.)

Jessy, I'm sorry you're not in love with yours. I suspect it's hard to compromise on...firmness...when two people share a bed. ;)
