Need advice ... heating two story home

Hi,

I recently purchased my first two story home, in Texas. The home has a single HVAC system but with two zones (i.e. a thermostat upstairs and downstairs with automated dampers to control which floor(s) are getting the heated or cooled air, if I understood correctly).

Okay, so my issue is that during the winter (it does actually get cold in Texas ) the first floor is noticably colder than the second floor. If we're cold on the first floor, we end up heating the second floor as well.

Any advice for how we might better balance out our house? Or is this just "how it is"?

Thanks,

Peter
