Sounds expensive - I pay somewhere under $3.00 locally.

The only mail order conversation I offhand recall is 6-in-1 crushed, but those aren't San Marzano.

It sounds expensive to me, but if it is the only way to get them, at times it will be worth it. The 28 oz cans by me are $2-4. However, my local Italian market has the 10# can size for less than $6 so I always get that when I am making a big pot.

Wow that is high, I get them at the commisary for 1.99 a can
but things are a little cheaper there.

I'm not sure I've even had San Marzano tomatoes but they'd have to be awfully good to beat these that Jessy turned everyone onto a couple of years ago. I've ordered from them several times.

That price sounds high to me, too. Out here in nowhere, where I can usually find nothing I occasionally do run across SM tomatoes and even then they are only about $2.79-$3.59 per 28 oz can.

To be perfectly honest, I can't taste any huge difference between them, the 6 in 1 or any other canned tomato, really.

OK I think we're all in agreement. They are too high.
They also have the 6 in 1 for about the same price. I guess I'll pass and hope to find them another time.

Costco..a 6lb. can of imported san marzano tomatoes Nina brand..for 3.89... check it out. They are the best.

You can order the 6 in 1 online for about $2.75 a can or thereabouts.

I think I bought a couple of 14 oz cans at our local Italian Grocery store for $1.99. I don't remember the brand - I thought San Marzano was the brand. (I've gobbled them up and recycled the cans, so I can't go look.) I used to think all canned tomatoes tasted the same, but these were much, much better than what I was used to.

I'm sure am glad I checked with the CF bunch. There's a Costco 2 blocks from here. And even if I do mail order with shipping, it still will be less.

I purchased a couple of cans of San Marzano Tomatoes from an upscale grocer in town. When I read the label, I was shocked! The tomatoes were canned in the U.S.--not Italy. Need to check those labels BEFORE purchase, not after. The tomatoes were nothing special. I don't have a source for 6 in 1 here nor is there a local Costco. I make due with Hunt's.

I pay $1.98 for the 6 in 1 in LA, and about $2.99 for the imported ones. I like the 6 in 1 best, but the Costco cans are quite the bargain. I don't think it makes any difference if you're cooking them down in sauce anyway. Hunts without salt is okay, but I think the tomatoes are watery.

What is 6 in 1?

My grocery store had Cento San Marzano 28oz cans priced at 10 cans for $10 last year. I cleaned out every can on the shelf. I returned the next day and cleaned them out again. Now, it's $5/can. =[

6 in 1 is a brand of crushed tomato that many here like. I ordered a bunch and wasn't convinced at first, but now that I'm recently out, thank you for reminding me to place a new order because I love it primarily for pizza and marinara dipping sauces. The link below has more info.

Find a product you like. Simply seeing "San Marzano" on the label doesn't guarantee good. Although I don't know it offhand, I'm sure the EU or Italy has some sort of seal that ensures it's the good stuff from the right place, perhaps even treated right?

Tomatoes vary depending on where they are grown so some San Marzano tomatoes taste fabulous and others are just tomatoes. To be sure to get the true flavor of a San Marzano grown and canned in Italy look for the letters DOP on the can. They are wonderful but expensive. I've grown both San Marzano and Opalka in my garden and I'll take an Opalka tomato over the San Marzano every time. But again that's because of where they are grown.

Find a product you like. Simply seeing "San Marzano" on the label doesn't mean they are grown in the San Marzano region of Italy.
The can can say San Marzano style or type tomatoes...I buy imported only.
I have been fooled once too many times.The difference in taste is the soil and climate in which they are grown as somebody already stated.

Well, my Costco doesn't carry this, darn it. I guess I'll have to drop some money at the local Italian deli, or find someplace close that carries 6 in 1 or San Marzano--or order online!
