My Eye Exam
Comments (12)Here is an article that just came out about glaucoma. I've included a link for it as well as a link for natural remedies that MAY help reduce pressure. HTH. A New Understanding of Glaucoma By PETER JARET-Reporter's File The New York Times July 16, 2009 For years, glaucoma was defined as elevated pressure within the eye that leads to vision loss. And for years experts knew there were glaring gaps in that definition. Many people with abnormally high intraocular pressure never develop glaucoma. As many as one in three people who do get the disease have normal or even low pressure. As researchers have tried to resolve those contradictions, a new paradigm for understanding glaucoma has emerged. Glaucoma isnâÂÂt simply an eye disease, experts now say, but rather a degenerative nerve disorder, not unlike AlzheimerâÂÂs or ParkinsonâÂÂs disease. âÂÂAll three of these diseases affect aging populations and involve selective loss of certain populations of neurons,â said Dr. Neeru Gupta, a professor of ophthalmology and director of the glaucoma unit at the University of Toronto. âÂÂParkinsonâÂÂs affects motor control. AlzheimerâÂÂs affects cognition. Glaucoma disrupts vision. But the closer we look, the more they seem to have in common.âÂÂ........ Comments (4)I've been to the emergency room of Wills for exactly the same thing--floaters--years ago. And was there for many hours. It does take a while to be seen, it seems. BUT would you ever go anywhere else? Wills is rated the second best eye hospital in the entire country. Worth waiting for their excellant drs. So how's your wife doing? Hope everything was okay--I'm assuming it is, since the main concern this morning is your length of time in the ER. Have you considered tracking down the chief of staff's name and address and writing a letter addressing the problem and asking if there is any way to solve it for the good of future patients? To be honest, I haven't been so concerned about Wills lately, since DD works for a top doc on 'our' side of the river who has his own surgical center and who--with an 'in' I can get hold of in case of an emergency. But, if you do write, let me know and I'll try to find time to send a letter also (even though my visit was many, many years ago). Good luck to you and your wife...See MoreWhat a racket -- eye doctor/glasses/contacts.
Comments (20)I had cataract surgery in my right eye. Supposed to correct for distance AND astigmatism. Paid extra for a "Toric" lens to correct the astigmatism. Nope. Still need glasses to correct for astigmatism. I see extremely little difference in 'color clarity' between the operated eye and the left eye. I think I didn't NEED the surgery at all! After all of that I went to Costco for my eye exam and glasses. I have close vision correction in the right lens and no-line trifocals in the left lens. First pair of glasses needed tweaking. No questions about repeating the exam and re-making the glasses. No costs....See MoreMay I get some "Eye" advice Ladies & Gent(s)?
Comments (17)I also have dry eyes and recommend the warm compresses. I had a terrible sty last year. My optometrist sent me to an ophthalmic surgeon to be on the safe side since it was stubborn and since I didn’t have a history of these. He diagnosed blepharitis and recommended gentle eye massage after the compress use. It helps release the oils in the eyes and in the tear ducts. You can do the massage with a crooked forefinger in the shower with baby shampoo or a non-soapy gentle cleanser....See Morewoodnymph2_gw
