Anyone familiar with Amelanchier alnifolia 'Obelisk'
Comments (14)I'd be curious to know, as well. I saw a large number of them being sold for reasonable prices at Fleet Farm last year (5 gal). If they do that again this year I'll probably pick up one or two myself. I like the naturalistic clump form, and 6 or 8-foot spread woud look better than 15x4 IMO anyway. I've grown 'Regent' serviceberry (another alnifolia) in the past, and really love that species here on the northern great plains, as it's probably the hardiest serviceberry to high-pH soils (and native to the region). 'Regent' is a good berry producer, as it was developed in Canada for commercial fruit production. A hedge of Regent would be spectacular. Fall color was closer to yellow than orange for me, but they were all growing in partial/full shade. Still very nice color. The biggest problem is that rabbits absolutely love them in the winter (just like all Serviceberries), so they need protection. I used green-PVC-coated chicken wire year-round, but only winter protection might be necessary....See MoreHas anyone stained an unfinished Brazilian Teak/Cumaru Floor?
Comments (12)Several years ago we installed clear grade Cumaru in an area inside a hotel lobby. It stained quite well and made a beautiful floor. I didn't take any pictures but you can see a bit of the floor here: http://www.pgaresort.com/photo-gallery Look under iBar. The first two pictures shows the Cumaru floor. With Cumaru, the biggest issue for many is the wide range of color. Did you look at the Sapele I recommended to you earlier?...See MoreIs anyone familiar with Muller Graff engineered floors
Comments (40)I currently have a box of the Muller Graff Fort de France Noelle sampled out on my floor. My biggest concern from seeing a sample board in the store, was the filling the manufacturer uses on knots and imperfections. The Noelle is one of the most raw and light-colored finishes of the Fort de France line that I saw, and the filler is a synthetic, gray looking material. I didn't like it at all in the store, but now that I have an entire box laid out at home, I think the wood looks very nice and I'm not bothered by the filler at all. The boards appear to be well engineered and for the price point, it seems like this product offers a lot of value for European oak. Think I'm going to go with it!...See MoreAnyone familiar with Becki Owens Hewn flooring?
Comments (2)Looks like a good flooring choice. I was not aware of this product. Please read the warranty because as usual this floor like others doesn't like water. • This limited warranty does not apply to damage caused by water or moisture in the subfloor or underneath the flooring, including but not limited to damage from subfloor hydrostatic pressure or other conditions that result in water or moisture being under the floor. It does cover topical moisture. If the water does not flow over the edge of the surface (edge of the room, cut boards, etc.) water will evaporate before passing between the planks to the subfloor or damage the planks....See Moreuluvbs
