Cherry Garcia...I couldn't wait!

Okay, I don't have ice cream for breakfast very often. Actually, I think this may be the first time, now that I think of it! LOL

Since I bought the Ben & Jerry's book in Chicago, and got the ice cream maker from Tracy, and posted the Cherry Garcia recipe for Beachlily...I have been dying to make some ice cream!

So I bought some frozen sweet cherries at the grocery store, then got the bowl all nice and frozen, and made my first batch of ice cream in my new ice cream maker!

Cherry Garcia is my favorite, so it was only fitting that it was my first batch. It turned out great, and will be even better when I can use fresh bing cherries!

Next batch will be Maple Walnut. My neighbor brought me a bottle of maple syrup he made from his own mapll trees the other day. I am going to make a batch of Maple Walnut ice cream and give it to him. I think he'll like that!

Gotta go finish my "healthy" breakfast! LOL

when the husk is dry and fruit yellow then it can be picked from the bush but the ripest fruit for cape gooseberry (called ground cherry in the US because maybe it is eaten after it falls from the bush, still no cherry by a long shot). so yes with the cape gooseberry eat them when they fall for sweetness of flavour, eat from the bush as i said before they are a bit tart in flavour but probably best then for making jam (or jelly as you call it). the cape gooseberry is native in our habitat. len Here is a link that might be useful: lens garden page

Ward: I use foliage & flower form to ID my microphylla vs greggii cultivars. The offical taxonomic difference is a pair of Papillae (Bumps or teats at the base of microphylla which are not present in S.greggii).I use Comptons form of ID. S.microphylla having several different leaf forms some small,some large and some pointed. The Leaf margin (Microphylla) has small serrations or teeth foliage also shows heavy venation.S.greggii is smooth or entire on the margin and no venation in the foliage. Hybrids show up right in the middle some venation but not as distinct as microphylla thus showing the smoother influence of salvia greggii leaves on the leaf margine and top.S.microphylla also has some forms ( var.grahamii) with small foliage and flowers Rich: My "Scotts Red"(Ogden) has foliage like "Plum Wine" (Dufresne)and "Raspberry Delight (Salman). Some use to list it as a microphylla but it shows none of the typical microphylla traites. FYI iam am looking at taking a trip out to the Davis mountains in June. I would like to go to Mt.Emory and collect some cuttings off some of the salvia we saw growing on the trail Lycioides(?)but they appeared more like S.coahuilensis.I am not going to collect any regla while there.may also take a look around for some other Salvias. THINGS I'M GLAD WE DID We planned for the future and ran PVC pipe underneath all our concrete walks and drives so landscape lighting could be added later. Also ran pipe for electric wires out to the backyard where we would be building our barn the next year so we wouldn't have to dig up the yard again. Wired for an entertainment system in the basement (which we are finishing now -- 2 yrs. after move-in). DH insited on 400 amp service so we would have plenty of electrical for pool, barn etc. Splurged on the kitchen cabinets and appliances. It's one of our favorite rooms and is large enough for both of us to cook at the same time. Makes cooking & cleanup easy and enjoyable. Insisted on a pool bath with a separate entrance into the home. We fired our first designer when he insisted it was a waste of space in our northern home and would present a security risk because it makes another entrance to the home. It's great not to have guests walk across our wood floor when coming in from the pool to use the restroom. It's also a great changing room for the pool and hot tub and the shower is a great place to wash the doggie. Lots of very large windows to view the beautiful landscape and wildlife from everywhere in the home. What a way to increase the endorphins during an upper midwest winter. We used to live in a house where we could barely see outside. Our coffee area in the MB suite. We saw this in a parade home and had our second (and final) architect plan for this. It consists of some cabinetry, a small refrigerator and a bar sink -- perfect for making coffee in the morning or storing juice and sodas. It's located outside the bedroom, bathroom and closet area but still inside the suite area. Planned for a single, very large MB closet. It's 10 x 15 and is a perfect size for storing all our clothes and is also a roomy changing room. A covered lanai in the back of the house to escape the summer heat but enjoy the rainstorms. Our hardwood floor (Brazilian Teak) throughout the house. One of the biggest "wow" factors to people visiting. THINGS I WISH WE HAD DONE DIFFERENTLY Mostly small size changes which you wouldn't understand unless you were inside the house. A couple of feet here and there to make a room slightly larger. We actually cut those feet off the original plan to keep it just under 4000 sq.ft. Boy, I wish we had kept them. Really checked our cabinet layout. Our laundry room has a tight area when using the fold-down ironing board. It's mainly because we chose a front loading washer & dryer which are deeper than traditional machines. Try to visualize the cabinets and how they work in the room.

Linda, it looks yummy to me and I agree, it's a healthy breakfast. It has milk, eggs, fruit....why, it's practically health food!

Now I'll wait for the Bings to ripen here too. Oh heck, I might not, I have some frozen from last year.

That looks so good. Chocolate and cherries, what a combination.

I have two of the freezers in a closet that I bought for gifts when they were on sale. Now I am thinking of gifting myself.

That is one thing I plan on buying as soon as they come into the stores here for summer, an ice cream maker.

Is there a recipe for Chunky Monkey in that book too?

CG is my favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor. Luckily for me I only eat ice cream in the summer. It makes me too cold at other times of the year. I used to be able to polish off a whole half pint if the situation warranted it, but no more, that was back in the day when my job was running (literally) a wilderness outpost.

Linda, that is so very tempting! The first ice cream I made with that little machine was butter pecan. Why in the world didn't I know that that stuff was so easy to make?

Man-o that looks good! I made my inaugural batch of ice cream last night. Vanilla. It was SO easy! We ate some immediately although it was pretty soft. I actually like it soft so I was happy. It was YUMMY!

I put it in the freezer of course and took a taste this morning. It was perfectly firm like REAL ice cream - how exciting is that! I'll scoop some out and take a picture tonight.

Next up: Coffee, my favorite ice cream flavor.

Love Cherry Garcia.

The other one I really like, but I seem to be in the minority, is the Willie Nelson Peach Cobbler something or other. I can't never remember it's entire name.
