Anyone know about Brucelliosis?(Undulant Fever)

I have been diagnosed with this about 2 weeks ago. So far, I am worse instead of better with the meds! Does anyone know of this, know anyone with it, or any thing at all to help me understand.

I am now on medical leave and taking the 6 week therapy, but so far just worse instead of better. Dr. said this may happen and maybe turn chronic. I hope I don't feel like this forever!

Where did you get it? It's quite rare in the US...
It should respond to a 6 week treatment of antibiotic...and may reoccur and have to be treated again.
Are you sure of the diagnosis? Did they do a blood culture?
Perhaps you have something else too?

Yes, it is very rare in the US! I have been to an infection control specialist who did what he called a "living autopsy" and was the one who diagnosed it. He redid the labs to double check and it is definitely brucellosis.
Yes, I am doing the oral 6 week treatment and am on the 2nd week. I just feel worse instead of better. It makes me wonder if I will ever feel good again!
Apparently, I got it about 3 years ago. I remember when I got very sick and no one could figure it out. It finally got better, but the last 3 years have had numerous flus, etc. which gradually got better on their own. Meds didn't seem to help much! Dr. stated probably occurences and then better and would reoccur often. More freq. as I had it longer and with more symptoms.
As I have had it and apparently each reoccurence has been worse than the one before and this time, been sick most of the last 6 months until they finally sent me to the infection control specialist.
I was just hoping someone else might know someone who has had it, how likely I won't get a reoccurence after this and if the 6 week rx. might work well. Dr. said I may need Iv therapy if this doesn't kick it. (due to the fact I have kept it so long).
I did get it from drinking fresh cow's milk, which I had done most of my life!!
But the good news is, I don't have any lymphoma or leuckemia like the other drs. thought I might. So thankful for that, but feeling pretty rotten. Keeping a fever sometimes all day and night still, swelling and painful ankles, knees, hands, etc. Definitely have excessive sweating, headaches, and severe fatigue. Am off work now due to dr. wanting me to just rest-not really able to work anyway.
Just hoping for anyone who might have a good ending-which I am sure is coming-but ready for it now! LOl!

I used to drink with a crowd of really great older guys in Gera... fishing information, shuffle board, homemade horseradish. It was the concensus and advice that joints should be replaced asap when they wear out. A couple felt like they had wasted years of their life by attempting to make-do and deal with the pain... "don't wait until you are 70". A gal that works on my production line had hers done a few months ago. Pretty certain she went FMLA followed by a lay-off due to the economy. I used to tease her by calling her "limpy". When the weather was changing or she had a long day she would develop a visable limp. She didn't know she was limping and my teasing was one of the factors that made her get the hip fixed. I was not teasing to be mean... when she limped I also pushed her towards easy tasks. Today she is much better. The limp and the pain is gone. She has a very physically challenging job... 35lb lifting 30 times per hour, constant walking with stops at different work stations, steps to climb... everyone gains muscle. (Something when you put muscle on a farm girl... her other job is tending a herd of cows.) She is not having any problems with the job, no limp, faster then I am at the same job. I try to take care of her by getting the heavy stuff and she tries to take care of me by getting the heavy stuff. Just started a 25 y/o that can't yet handle the physical demands. We work in a factory making steel things so nothing is light or simple... and it is hot humid uncomfortable work. From what I'm told and can see replacement leaves most people better then before... much better. Speaking of work... I have to go in early. New machines, new jobs,... hiring soon *happy dance*.

This sounds like fun and I think I could have just copied missindia's answers! lol I think we are long lost twins! But I am going to pass this time, as I have several projects in the works. Missindia, usually partners will email each other first to get to know each other better. Then you fill up a box with things you think your partner would like... something they collect, candles, candy, items from your state or area, windchimes, handmade and seasonal items.... some people also send things for the rest of the family and/or furbabies. I have sent (and received) vintage things too! We've never had price limits. You can get a flat rate box at the post office. I think it is $7.95?? and you can fill it with whatever you want with no weight limit. You guys have fun! Maybe I will join the next one?

Woke up one morning with the sensation of a pea in my throat. Immediately went into a panic attack that kept me anxious for days. Saw and ENT the following week and he did the nose/throat scope and saw nothing. He suggested it was globus caused by either acid reflux or allergies. The lump went away overnight. Once the 'lump' went away I started getting what felt like spasms in my esophagus...freaked me out. Went to a gastroenterologist who did an endoscopy which found nothing. No acid damage, no hiatal hernia, nothing. He suspects acid reflux since all else was ruled out. Now on omeprazole - time release 40 mg once per day. Been only a week, but the spasms have subsided somewhat. During a followup with the ENT her suggested a FEEST test. He scopes the throat via the sinus, and watches as green jello passes down the throat to observe what happens. That's tomorrow. I have completely revamped my diet, so I am hoping that the meds (which I don't want to be on long term), some weiht loss, and change in diet can rid me of this. This whole thing just freaks me out and creates way more anxiety than is necessary. If the anxiety is perpetuating it, seek out a health-care professional that deals with anxiety through non-med solutions....meds if you must. Sue

It is also called coccidiodomycosis. It sounds to me like he needs to see an infectious specialist or go to a major medical center. There are two forms....the most serious one is the disseminated form and can be treated with an IV antifungal agent. Does your brother have any other lung problems such as emphysema? Does he smoke? How old is he? I had Valley Fever when I was eight years old and I still have a spot on my lung but recovered fully. Doesn't that come from cow's? Can it be transmitted through poorly pasteurized dairy products?

Hi Catherinet! Yes, it came to me through drinking fresh cow's milk. Something I had done most of my life! I am not around cows, but got it in the milk I got weekly.
It can also be transmitted from cleaning fresh meat without gloves, etc.
Like people in slaughter houses, veterinarians, etc.
