I have several big purses but you aren't supposed to fill them up! They would be too heavy then. The leather ones are heavy enough without anything in them.

It's all about the look, not the function.

I'm sure some women stuff theirs, but I don't think that's the norm.

I don't care for the ones big as small suitcases but I do prefer the overall look to a small purse.

Last fall, I bought a beautiful winter white leather Fossil Fifty Four handbag at Dillard's for an amazing price. It is a gorgeous bag. While ringing up at the register, two older ladies nearby, seeing my joy, said "My, things certainly have changed".
I thought that funny! I guess it is a huge bag compared to yesterdays little things.

But, empty, it is heavy.

Oh, sometimes, I carry a netbook in my purse too.

I have a big purse- in it are my wallet, an old box of altoids, my reading glasses, kleenex, and about 400 crumpled up receipts. Maybe I don't really need a big purse!

Guilty. But then, a small purse looks ridiculous on me. I carry a lot more now than I used to, but find I use a lot more of the stuff.

I think the super big bags are trendy, but I tend to carry a larger bucket style normally.

I have 3 little kids, I walk around with the world on my shoulders....and in my purse!

I much prefer a smaller bag and I don't carry alot with me. A big bag looks ridiculous on me.

Not into trendy and no desire to walk around with an overnight bag ... that's what some of those big purses remind me of.

I have a Derek Alexander sling purse that turns into a pack pack, which is how I wear it. I am sooo out of it but it works for me. I'm hands free. Large purses do not speak to me.

The larger the purse, the more I carry.

Being tall, I find the big purses a relief after years of small bags that I could barely fit my wallet into and they look better on me.

All contents are kept to a bare minimum so I can change bags quickly.

I'm with graywings-the more space I have the more crap I stuff in it.

In fact, right now my right shoulder is, again, feeling very sore and stiff. I suspect it is due to hauling around my heavy large bag. I really need to go find something smaller and start carrying only what I really need.

I'm in the same boat as graywings and runninginplace. Love the look of a big bag but my back can't take all the junk I tend to stuff into it.

Bumblebeez, I'll bet those old ladies weren't commenting on the size, but rather the color! Some of us remember when white shoes and bags were not worn/carried after Labor Day. I still find that hard to do-old habits...lol.

I am small, 5'3" and carry a large bag for everyday-stuffed with two checkbooks, wallet, phone, detritus of everyday life-maybe I do need to buy something small even though I love big, slouchy bags. Mine isn't full, but I am always digging for something that I can't find.

I think that is one reason I haven't splurged on a big bag yet. I'd probably hunt for stuff to put in it, even though I don't necessarily need it with me.

cyn, no it was the size! They made a few other comments too, all good natured. But yes, I grew up with the no white rules too and it was firmly held by most everyone in the know.

Now, I can't stand dark colors in the winter.

Not a fan - I think someone told the Hollywood fashion types that carrying a huge bag made them look thinner by comparison, and so they bought into it.

Seems like I have the 'be prepared' motto stuck in my head, so I end up with a lot of unnecessary stuff in my purse, just in case. But toting around the stuff in a carry-on luggage sized purse isn't the answer for me.

To each their own, tho.

Well; guess what I did at 4 am? I bought a B Makowsky Pewter Animal bag. I'm not nuts on metallic but loved the look of the leather on this bag.

I have a B Makowsky organizer bag that I love this one but it's discontinued. This is the closest bag to the discontinued one.

Now, is that bag what everyone considers Big?

I would put that size in a moderate range although it is bigger, of course, than what bags used to be.
I also wouldn't carry anything bigger than that but plenty of people do.

I've never been able to use a big bag because I'm too short for them. I also heard though that they are not good for your back and shoulder. I do have a medium sized bag that's big enough to put my work camera in though. The only other things I keep in it are my wallet, sunglasses, blackberry and some batteries. It's a Fossil too, I just love their stuff. It's in my favorite green color and I liked it so much, I went back to buy myself a second one in the same color, and my daughter one in a pretty plum color they have. It's just like with clothes, when I find gold in the midst of all the carp out there, I stock up.

I think it's mid to large; look at the photo of her carrying it. You have to remember it's stuffed & may carry different- The bag was just on TV; he's on for another 45 minutes. It's one of the values of the day; so they will keep showing it. The blue looks beautiful on TV; I was drooling early this morning. I clicked on the link, purely out of curiosity and now, I am going to have to go through and check out every one of those bags even though I love the purple one near the top of the page). My son bought that purple bag in black last year for his GF. I found it at Marshall's for under $150 but it was the only time I've seen that bag there. It's an awesome; fun bag. It's one of his softest bags. My teen daughter even loved it.

Link to the show I watched last night; guess it was 2am & not 4. The top blue bag is also beautiful. I ordered it in blue; pewter & brandy & was going to keep all but the pewter but the strap doesn't work for me because it needs a tensioner to hold the strap together. I wouldn't wear it as a crossbody. It also has a matching wallet. The brandy was out of this world with the rose hardware.

Bruce will be on again in 2 1/2 hours- 8pm EST; another 2 hour show. Hope hub is sleeping by then lol

See, to each their own. Not one of the ones that roselvr posted appeals to me in the least. I laughed when I saw the fringe one - it made me think of someone carrying a lhaso apso under their arm! LOL The third reminds me of a diaper bag I had years ago.

Think of it this way; you can use it for 30 days; if you don't like it; ship it back. QVC is very good about returns. I think easy pay was offered on it; if so; they only charge you the 1st payment while you decide. I normally know when I open the box & try it on; so far have never used one & sent it back. I like to send it back within 2 weeks so it's processed before the next payment is due.

Well; my purse came the other day; beautiful bag but wasn't nuts about the silver. If it was trimmed in gray; it would be awesome. I figured I'd use it for a week then most likely send it back but I decided I'll keep it. I don't consider the bag large; more medium. Have to say that I'm thinking of that blue next.

I'm somewhat of a purse-oholic, and while I have a number of small purses, I only use them when I'm going out in the evenings to a dinner, opera, etc. They just don't hold enough of my essentials for daytime use! I love my big purses, although I have to admit that some can be quite heavy. My older Dooney & Bourke leather bucket bag is like that and I avoid using it if I'm going to be out shopping for the day.
What do I keep in my usual big purses? Wallet, reading glasses, sunglasses, small makeup bag with lipstick, comb, etc., a travel packet of Kleenex, pen, small measuring tape, mints, small notebook, cell phone . . . and these days, my latest High Country Gardens plant catalog, which is the gardening bible out here!

I am aslo a purse-oholic and have many sizes in my collection. All my smaller purses are for evening/special occasion only. It doesn't feel right to me carrying a little dainty purse for everyday to do my errands etc. I am picturing my late grandmother with her 4'11" rolly-poley stature and tiny top handle black leather which she carried everywhere! I prefer hobos and large top handles. I do have a small-ish cross body bag I use on class field trips, amusement park, outdoor activities etc. I love my big purses even though I am petite, but don't stuff them either. I usually carry my wallet, small make-up bag (lip-gloss, bronzer, perfume) phone, and whatever item I will need for the day's activity (water, wipes, camera, ipad, etc). I also have a bag insert/organizer that i keep my things in because I change bags so often. I just pull it out and switch!

Maybe because it's so hot here- starting in March btw- that leather bags seem wintery to me. I AM tempted by the blue B. Makowsky bag...but whoa! it's still a really pricy bag (for me) and I would only use it in the cold months.
