Help me, please. I hate the color of the grout..

I am sick to my stomach. Several times today, I have just started to cry. The grout which I choose for the porcelain tile in the kitchen looks pink.... My husband insists that it is beige but it is beige with a pink undertone. When I was picking the color, i told the decorator at the tile shop, that I did not want pink or any color with a pink undertone. My husband teased me when the tileguy was mixing it up that it was pink. And now it is......

Is there anything that I can do. Removing it will cause divorce proccedings, I am sure. But if I have to live with this, I'll be moving out.

If it is regular old sanded grout, just let it cure and apply a grout colorant to it. Colorants come in all the various grout colors. Do not apply a sealer yet on the new grout if you plan to do this.

If you wet the grout, does it still have a pinkish color?

Thanks for your reply. The tile installer did not use water to mix the grout but a bottled liquid. IIRC, I thought that it had a built in sealer.

Am I doomed to live with this costly mistake,

Marcy96- The main reason I decided against the tumbled and travertine was the possibility of it turning pinkish. To answer your question, we were very lucky when it came to removing the tiles. The installer was someone who my husband saw previous work and then he in turn recommened him for three jobs. (My husband owns and manages real estate.) When it came time for him to install ours,he did a great job. But the color looked terrible. The white tiles took on a gray cast. MY DH agreed and saw how upset I was. It was removed for free!It really was not messy. However, this leaves you with a compromised wall that has the sheetrock ripped off. You now no longer have the option to paint it and wait. You are left with an awful looking carboard wall! I don't know why we couldn't replace the sheetrock, my DH was against that. So, now I am waiting for the installer to come back and put my new tiles in. Just hoping it will be acceptable. tbosshar: Trust me, if my tiles come out half as good as yours, I will consider myself lucky.

I'm sorry i'm can't help you. But, I would love to see photos of your cabinets as well as your backsplash when it's done. I plan to paint my cabinets a greyish/sage (most likely) with white tile and I was wondering the same thing. White or gray grout? I'm leading towards gray. Somewhere around here someone has a picture posted of white subway tile with (pewter? i think) grout. It looked great! If you could post pics I'd love it! A couple things I’d like to add. I put epoxy grout in both my bathroom remodels. It can leave a ting of shadow in marble because it soaks in the sides of the tile. You don’t want that area to have sealer on it though so the grout can make connection with the tile. You can barely see the bleed, but it’s there. I personally love it because it adds even more depth to the marble. Here is my slate floor in a light medium gray epoxy grout. It looks almost white in contrast to the black. That’s the trick to the eye. This floor is worn hard. Farmer husbands bathroom with bad shoes. I don’t fuss with this floor except may be once or twice a year, lol. And it’s not hard. I do know that there has been some slight staining near the sink where DH stands to wash up. But it’s slight. The last time I mopped this floor was several months ago. I just sweep it. It could use another mopping I see. The right half never gets walked on, the left is the main walking path into the room. I can see a slight darling. This shower shown below, with porcelain tile, has a narrow grout line. It is a very light epoxy where I combined 2 colors to get a slight off white. No mildew or mold accumulates because it gets wiped down after the showers are done for the day by the last user. Usually it’s just me. I have not washed the walls except 2 times early on 5 years ago, because I thought I should. It is a waste of time because of the daily wipe down with a large microfiber towel. I do spend time with the shower door sweeps from time to time because they will get mildewy. The floor is a cast iron shower pan and I do clean that as typical for cast iron, but because I’m usually the only one using it, that’s not often.

Bottled liquid... that sounds like he/she used an additive to mix regular sanded grout. I'd say you are probably OK here and can apply a colorant after its cured.

Put a little water on the grout... does it soak in or bead on the surface?

Get the name of the grout and liquid additive and call their tech line to see if you can apply a colorant safely.

We just used a colorant combined/sealer on DDs old, sanded grout on her tile counters. New house to her, but kitchen done on the cheap in the 1970s, no money for the remodel right now, and not well maintained. What a wonderful improvement! Easy to apply. Our HD carried 5 different colors of colorant.

Well, my DH thought he got the same grout color for our hall bath that the tile installer used for our master bath. When I came home to find him grouting, the grout mix looked like crushed red clay flowerpots. I made a comment and DH told me he had already tried it and it would dry fine. Well.......it didn't. He made a mistake in reading the color name and now we have beige tiles with a light terra cotta grout. The crying thing? Yes. Been there, thought of that. I bought colorant after posting on the John Bridge forum asking for help, (try that if all else fails) but ended up not using it because we did something we didn't plan in that bath and I let my DD use a deep terra cotta on the walls. Now the whole thing blends and it looks fine. When I repaint somewhere down the line, I will use the colorant.

DH and I installed tile in our laundry room and then I hated the grout color. DH actually sanded it all out and then replaced the grout with a color that I liked much better. It was dusty and a lot of work but in the end I was happy. And you never would have known that we did it.

Help me, please. I hate the color of the grout..
