Flat screen LCD over fireplace
Comments (7)Since your house is new, you should check the specs of your fireplace and look specifically at the CLEARANCES. These numbers refer to the distance around the firebox that needs to have only noncombustible material, like marble, slate, metal, etc. If your mantel is wood and your fireplace was installed properly, you can be sure that placing something above the mantel will not be a fire hazard. But heat rises and therefore the wall above the firebox will be warmer than, say, another wall in the room. There is therefore a risk that the extra heat will shorten the life of the TV....See MoreFlat screen mountig?
Comments (2)We've been getting a lot of requests regarding prepping for wall-mounted TVs in the modular homes we build. They generally involve providing an electrical recepticle and a TV jack at 60" above the floor. We are never asked to provide any additional blocking in the wall so I would surmise that weight is not an issue. I have been told that before you install mounting brackeds or drill a single hole, you should tack a piece of cardboard the size of your intended TV to the wall and stare vacantly at it for a period of time. Questions of the relative entertainment value aside, it will tell you if it is at a comfortable height. Wayne...See MoreFlat TV - Mount or not mount - PIX
Comments (23)We purchased a flat screen a couple of weeks ago and had never considered wall mounting it. My DH really wanted it on the wall so I said to go ahead and do it. I didn't have strong enough feelings about it to say no. You have to pick your battles. Well....I must say I like it so much more wall mounted. It just looks alot cleaner. The cables are still showing but he's going to run them thru the wall so we won't see them....See MoreWhat do you have your flat screen tv in/on
Comments (66)Parma, I obviously misread the specs on the bob mackie, sorry! You are right about the chinoiserie, I would prefer an accent piece and I really don't want the tv to be a visual focal point (though of course it will be because it IS the tv). You are also right that I am trying to take it on as a whole room and that is overwhelming to me. I am feeling pressure from lots of directions and it isn't helping me to think clearly. (ps.. are you going someplace fun?) Deborahnj- thanks for the view of my tv on a higher stand. That helps. My big concern though is that my room is narrow and the viewing distance is about 10'.. still, I think we'll be fine. bbstx - you crack me up because that's how I'd describe the doohickey too-- but I do know what you are talking about and I'll probably get the same thing (it's an infrared redirector or something?? maybe?). Thanks for the tip!...See More- 13 years ago
