Nixw Funeral
Comments (32)Oh yes, this bunch will always bring it around to food. Smiles. My father lived down in Florida for a few years with his sister. I remember the day he called me up sooo excited. He found a place down there that would cremate him and ship him for $699. LOL He didn't want any funeral, wanted to be cremated and buried in same space as my mother. We four kids had a bit of a discussion about it after he died, but we kept to his wishes and just we siblings and our partners were there when we put the little box in the ground. He wanted us to dig the hole ourselves at night, to save money, smiles, but our cemetery association was happy to do it for a few dollars. That was our only deviation from his requests. He did die when he was living back up here with us, so we didn't need the shipping but in his honor I did shop around for a nice reasonable crematorium. He'd have been proud. In fact I think he let me know he was pleased. A couple months after he died I was sitting at the computer with my back to the hall doorway. I heard him walk up the hall, say Hey loudly, like he always did in greeting. He sounded happy. It took me a few beats to realize/remember that he was no longer alive. Don, I knew you'd come up with some great music for the occasion. Smiles. When I was younger[thirties] my fondest wish was to have my body made into a skeleton like you have in anatomy class and just get propped in the corner for the kids to play with. As my nieces and nephews came along none of them seemed to care for the idea and it died a sad death. Ah well.. kids these days.. no imagination.. Smiles....See MoreReason why a hosta doesn't flower?
Comments (5)Hi Ken, I think the point you missed was that there are other hosta's flurishing. FGT isn't suffering other than no flowers. Other hosta's under that tree are Thunderbolt (flowerd) 3 Francis Williams, Golden Prayer and Eye Declare. All flowering and ready to eat my house. Most of those hostas have been there over many years. The roots could be a problem but there are others there and an extensive perennial garden on both sides. This little stinker just doesn't want to flower. I only fertilize my grass 2X a year and my perennial garden gets compost. So maybe some year it will surprise me. As for the large maples the only one we have near us is on the parkway in front of the house. Sucks the life out of everything. I have some perennials in the front and annuals and every year I have to dig out a garbage can of roots before I can plant the annuals. What a thug of a tree....See Moreslightly OT- whether or not to attend a funeral
Comments (4)drcindy, I have had two aunts pass and I did not attend their funerals and they were right here in town. The first aunt was my mother's sister and said some very bad things about my parents, who did nothing but try to help her, and the other aunt was married to my mother's brother and was just always a pain in the butt. I didn't not go out of protest, but I chose not to go listen to the lies people were going to say about how great they were, and how giving and all the drivel that flows during a funeral. If you happen to be in town with your mom when your husband's aunt passes, you could show your respect to your in-laws by showing up for them. But I personally wouldn't feel obligated. I am sorry about your mother, my mother has stage 4 non-alcoholic cirrhosis, but is fighting to stay alive as long as possible. I know the day will come when I have to see both my parents pass. I don't look forward to that day because I have recently lost my son, my little sister and another aunt...all within the past year. Do what makes you the most comfortable. If you think that you will regret not going, reconsider. I can't say that I regret not going to either of my aunts' funerals....See Morefiance's X wife comes to hospital, funeral home, family dinners
Comments (12)Lucy, Sylvia is exactly right..FDHs son is probably embarrassed, and angry if he was disiplined for what he did with the fist raising, but what are your expectations when you marry, FSS has to visit his dad at grandmas ? He will have to come to your home eventually, FDH needs to mend these fences between you and your sons and his son, not run off to grandmas...Also does FDH want Ex at the family functions? Why doesnt he tell her, stopping in is OK, but dont wear out your welcome, this is MY family, not yours... I have stopped at Exs family wakes usually before the home opens, to drop a card and sign the book, that way they know I cared enough to come, but didnt stick around to cause drama...I have had major problems with DH s ex coming to funerals, geez, I thought she d outlast the grieving spouse, as far as her staying power. DH and I just ignore her. But as far as sons needing support, DH was in the hospital, FSDIL asked if I called Ex to come, I was incredulous!!!!DH didnt want her there, but she was more than welcome to sit in the parking lot and give them hugs every half hour or so, if she chose to...Good luck with thse beauties, I feel your pain.......See Moreheydeborah
