The Gift

So much in life had been taken

from our sweet and loving Mom.

We couldnÂt foresee the reason

that her will would carry on.

Fourteen years of waiting

to be with the man she loved.

Countless days and nights of silence

as Dad watched her from above.

AlzheimerÂs destroyed the woman

who we all loved so much.

And left a tiny little shell

who had lost her loving touch.

There would be no homemade noodles,

or meatballs for her to make.

No deviled eggs or pickles,

or frosted angel-food cakes.

No one to wipe away our tears

and hug us oh so tight.

To chase away our worries

As we lay down at night.

She couldnÂt watch her great grandkids grow

or see them as they would play.

Instead she was locked in silence

through all those nights and days.

But through it all her mind was working

and devising a wonderful scheme,

to reunite with the man she loved.

The man who filled her dreams.

The angels fixed her hair just right

and gave her a lovely dress.

They told her he was waiting

to put her mind at rest.

She floated up into the clouds

that cold November day.

For she was on a mission.

There could be no more delay.

She could see all her family

who had passed on years before.

She walked the beautiful streets of gold

that leads her to GodÂs door.

She knocked ever so gently

and she was told to enter in.

She carried a tiny silver box

and said "I must see Jim".

For IÂve brought with me a gift

from his family back on earth.

TheyÂre letting me deliver it,

this day of his own birth.

God pointed her towards a cloud

and said "HeÂs waiting there".

That is when she saw him

sitting sadly on a chair.

His head was bowed as he waited,

those 14 lonely years.

And when he saw his lovely Pearl

his eyes filled up with tears.

"Please donÂt cry", she told him,

for I have brought you a gift.

Slowly he unwrapped it,

and it gave him such a lift.

Inside the tiny package

was a glowing ball so bright.

Dad could feel all the love

of his family that night.

Together they walked hand in hand.

Dad showed her all there was to see.

They shared a loving tender kiss.

Their hearts were filled with glee.

Now each day youÂll find them walking,

As they both are free of pain.

Holding tightly to the package

and the love they felt again.

Every moment brings them happiness

as they visit with family and friends.

Still always watching over our earthly lives

that love will never end.

Mom has planted a little garden

seeds and bulbs put in with care.

She enjoys the things she used to do,

and at night she bows in prayer.

Lord please watch over my family

as they go through this difficult time.

Remind them that IÂm happy now

and that they will all be fine.

For Dad and I are standing watch

and we see them every day.

WeÂll be forever with them.

WeÂre just a thought away.
