A friend treated me to lunch today! (pic)

What a delightful afternoon!

This is an assortment of different salads--from top, going clockwise, mushrooms with bean sprouts and sweet bell peppers, shrimp & avocado with red onions, cabbage with green onions and toasted almond slivers, marinated eggplant, calamari, and shrimp with cucumbers.

Then, onto sashimi--salmon, snapper, tuna, ginger, a crabshell stuffed with shrimp, and some kind of "puff."

An assortment of sushi and sashimi was next. Yum!

...and yes, we had room for dessert! Green Tea ice cream in the bowl, and fresh fruit, with assorted other delectibles on the plate.

I'm not quite sure why, but after I had taken a few photos, I was approached and told "no photos! no photos!" I looked around, and there were no signs prohibiting the taking of photos, so I said I was sorry and I didn't know I was not to take photos.

My eyes and taste buds and tummy were certainly doing the happy dance today! I hope you enjoy the photos!

We have a store here that makes fresh sushi and of course I buy it; usually for lunch after shopping.

Glenda, I'm just a bit north of Jackson, TN. I know there are several folks on the gardening forums that live close to me but I've not met any of them. I think Robin is the closest one to me and she's two hours away. I'd love to have lunch but it involves me taking an entire day off work. Just not possible for a while! I'll keep it in mind though! You all are such fun people!

Sorry I butchered her name, it's MARION Burros, cookbook author, and here's the recipe: Summer Torte by Marion Burros Originally posted by Jojoco, such a great cook! 1 stick butter, softened (I always use unsalted) 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup flour; sifted 1 tsp baking powder 2 eggs pinch of salt fruit of choice; sliced into wedges (I used about 7 plums. Peaches, nectarines,strawberries all work great and in combination) cinnamon sugar for top Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter and add sugar. Beat well. Add eggs and beat. Mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to batter. Mix. Spoon globs to greased 9 or 10 inch springform. Use a knife to spread batter to cover entire pan. Arrange fruit on top. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar (amount depends on the sweetness of the fruit). Bake for 45 min. I must admit that I like to top it with streusel in addition to the fruit, or at the very least some of those big sugar crystals (I use "Sugar in the Raw" for this).

Well he did act like a young Don Knots but he looked more like a young and of course chubby Dom DeLouise! Thank you everyone for your compliments you are all being so nice. It is nice when KT people can get together. We're spending the week at our place in northeast PA so it was only a 30 or so mile drive to met Susan at a restaurant. My husband and I had been cutting logs into rounds for 2 days so I told him I wanted a fun day. The kids come up tonight so tomorrow it's back to firewood duty - we rented a hydraulic log splitter and we're planning on getting 2 or 3 cords of wood split and stacked for the winter. I feel like the productive country mouse from the children's fable.

Glenda, In spite of a few bumps in the road occasionally, you sure lead the Good Life. You are so fortunate to have such wonderful friends to bring you such goodies. When are you supposed to go to the Biltmore, or have you already been, and I just missed it? Sue...wishing you a speedy recovery.

Gee, and here they are now serving fresh sushi and sashimi on nude models!! And you can take all the pictures you want. I like your special treat served on those colorful dishes better.

I'm also pretty tired of the constant diet ads.

Frankly, that lunch looks pretty darned healthy to be except perhaps the puffs and the ice cream.

I learned to like sushi while I was in California, although my favorite is still the deep fried sushi, LOL. It all looks good to me.

Oh goodness, I can see I was not clear... my friend treated me to lunch at a local eatery--that's why (in my initial post) I was surprised when I was approached and told "no photos!" Sorry for my miscommunication.

It was all delicious, and really, a lot more from which we could choose, but this is what we enjoyed. I love the green tea ice cream, and only get it once or twice a year, so that was especially enjoyed!

This week is my second week of "early Spring break" from teaching, and that's always special to me--it was even more wonderful to be surprised and treated to lunch!

That looks FABULOUS! Where was this rest.? And Re: the pics you took. If someone told me that - no pics can be taken - I would nicely ask, "Well if I take this all home to go, will you be escorting there to make sure I don't take pics?" That's garbage - the food was paid for and if you want pics, you've paid for them via the purchased food. That happened to me once in a fancy bakery in Paris and I asked how would they stop me if I open the box when I'm outside the door and take pics and they just stood there, gaping mouth, and speechless. Maybe THAT'S why they "hate Americans"?
