I got the camera specifically to take photos of little Jovi so I went with "easy". It's a point and shoot, a Canon PowerShot A1100 IS. So far I'm very impressed with how it does.

She really is a little doll! She's also quite an acrobat. Yesterday I mowed the lawn. While I was mowing I put Jovi in her kitchen xpen. When I was done mowing I opened up the kitchen door and saw, much to my amazement, Jovi hanging from the top of the 36" xpen. She'd climbed up there! I had just enough time to be shocked and then she dropped off and landed in her water bowl!

Rats, I thought she was ready for a nap but it looks like she's ready to play again.

water bowl- too funny!! and puppy naps! I remember when Bailey was that age and fell asleep halfway over the bottom rung of a dining room chair, head snuggled down on the rug- one of our favorite memories.
I am mad at you!- you said you were getting a puppy in about a month in your original post, I had thought all the posts were well wishers, not GW granmoms and dads. You need to learn to count girlfriend! Good thing I checked tonight. Am packing to come visit - must hold Jovi!!!

Well, she came a week early due to heat considerations and concerns about airline flight restrictions.

This ones pretty funny. I hadn't noticed that the level in the "big dog" water bowl was down a bit. Jovi has been spurning her own water bowl to drink out of this bowl but, the lower water level meant she couldn't reach the water anymore. She found a way!

The picture of her drinking water with her feet in it made me laugh out loud!! I even drug DH in to see her... She sure looks like she had really settled in nicely.

My poor little Jovi is seeing an orthopedic vet late today. Yesterday she managed to do a super squirm right out of my arms falling onto the concrete driveway! She came up lame on her right rear leg. I iced it and I rested her. She didn't react to it being maniupulated and I couldn't find any indication of a break so, I'm hoping she just sprained something. I'll find out when the vet sees her.

I can't believe it, I broke my puppy. I feel so BAD!!!!

Too, too cute! I do hope her leg is okay. I fear that happening with my pup - who is actually getting close to 5 years old. She's a 9 pound yorkie-poo, who forgets she's little and thinks she can jump from high places!

How weird. I thought I'd posted a short update late last night. It's not here so I get the sleep deprivation that comes with a new pup is getting to me!

Thank goodness, Jovi's leg is not broken. She is on an anti inflammatory for 5 days and limited movement for a few days. Trying to limit her movement ought to be interesting.
Oh and she weighs 8 pounds.

I'm so glad her leg is going to be OK and limiting her movement could prove to be impossible. Eight pounds? Wow!

It's been difficult to keep her activity level down. I've been doing more training with her so that we're interacting and using her "brain" to try to distract her from missing the wild running. I've also been playing with her on the sofa...small tug games and such.

Big brother Mason has been helping to encourage her to nap.

I think she may need some more toys. LOL!

Jovi is a complete sweetie, BUT I want to give Mason a big hug too for being such a wonderful, welcoming big brother. How great is he to take Jovi right under his wing, as it were? What a dear!

Go!!! Mason!!! Fly is right, he is a wonderful big brother. BTW, the video I loved most was where Jovi was running between her toys, the two rooms and her senior female sister. She was practicing for her future agile racing in that video, I swear. She hit every mark (almost) twice!

Jovi seems like she loves the camera as much as the camera loves her!

I could just eat her up with a spoon! She and Mason are very cute together. It's great how well they are getting along.

I've managed to fall completely in love with Mason. He is the real star! Letting our cover girl relentlessly chew on his ear, cuddling her so she can sleep and sharing everything. Mason is great!

Faron, you have only yourself to blame for Jovi's popularity. You had plenty of photo opportunities that you totally flunked at taking advantage of. That said, I would love to see some current photos of her. We have been deprived.

Jovi is standing on top of the retaining wall in that photo. She likes to make me worry. She fell off of it last week, picked herself up and ran right back up and seemed to throw herself over the edge again.

This is from earlier this year but it'll show you why I worry when she's up there.

Mason really is the sweetest boy in the world! He's very intelligent/highly trainable and has a huge desire to please. I'm hoping that a little bit of Mason rubs off on Jovi.

He was also pretty cute as a pup too! Tiny little pin bottom and those great big feet.

Gee, I'm slipping on the photos. Jovi went to the vet yesterday and had her second puppy shot as well as her puppy exam. She's very healthy and weighs 10 pounds now.

She had a "play date" with a Doberman puppy this morning. He was a lot larger than she was but she wasn't at all afraid of him. Probably because of the things Mason lets her do to him.

Who me? I do stuff to Mason? How can you say that mom?

Jovi is a total Diva! Mason reminds me of Dubs when we got Isabelle, our english bulldog puppy - he adores her. He would also play ball but would only keep the ball until he knew she was very interested. Then he'd just give it to her with satisfaction that he knew how to care for her. Mason has the same heart, it seems - very intuitive.

Now, Isabelle's nickname is Isaball. She is ball obsessed. Her balls must go to bed at times, when she is acting OCD. "Bedtime for ball" means forget it. And she listens, most of the time. Other times I must put the ball in the closet and close the door. Bulldogs hyper-focus, unlike your breeds. Sometimes bulldogs don't care what you think and you must instill them to comply. They are clowns.

Isabelle is snoring loudly by my feet as I type. Don't forget to post photos.

I can't help smiling every time I see your pictures. I really am enjoying watching your 2 kids play together.

This is just the best post - I check every day for more photos. This is the first time in over 30 years that we don't have a dog so I am thoroughly enjoying the pictures of your beautiful pets.

I was sharing them with my daughter --- but I couldn't share the last one of Mason as a puppy after having his ears done. What an absolutely adorable face - those eyes and what an expression on his face! My DD has been begging for a Doberman ever since our last Rotty died. I'm afraid that photo would have put her on an all out campaign and I'm afraid that my resistance is weakening. Unfortunately I don't think I want another large dog. Plus we feel that having 2 dogs at the same time works best for us. We started out with German Shepherds from Germany until the hair drove me over the edge. Most shepherds from Germany have a thicker coat which produces prodigious amounts of hair. Then we went with Rottweilers and had 4 of them over the last 20 years. I just wish they'd breed a 50 pound Rottweiler and I'd be happy.

But I have a question- I don't notice any scratches on your leather coach from their nails - how often do you trim them?

Isaball, I just love that golddust! It's funny, Mason's never been much of a toy dog. He likes to tug with me but his idea of playing with a toy prior to Jovi's arrival was to rip it apart as fast as possible and see if he could eat the inndards before I got them. (Tennis balls he can "pop" quite easily, powerful jaws.) As a consequence, he only got toys when closely supervised.

Well, now there are toys all over the place. The first week I was obsessed about picking them up so Mason wouldn't have access to them. (It's not the ripping up I care about, it's the eating and possibly causing an obstruction.) I finally figured out that the only time he picks up a toy, balls included, is when he wants to "tease" Jovi. He really is a very special boy and I hope some of him rubs off on Jovi.

Maire cate, I'm so glad you're enjoying the photos! I really like GSDs and Rotties too. I just like big dogs and if they bred smaller Dobermans then I'd probably have stuck with that breed. As it is, I wanted a smaller dog too.

That sofa and loveseat are old, about 12 or so years old. Our dogs have always been allowed on them and we've never had a problem but I keep their nails very short. How often I do them depends on their growing stage. Whit and Mason as mature adults had their nails dremeled once a week. When Mason was a pup, his nails grew so fast that I did them twice a week. Right now everyone is getting their nails done every 2-3 days because I'm teaching Jovi to accept the dremel. She did very well with it this morning!

I'll try to get some new photos later today. It seems that one of Jovi's ears is trying to change from semi-erect (flopped over tip) to fully erect. I've never had a BC before so I've got no idea if this is common or what....I've sent a question in to the breeder's Yahoo group. Anyway, my little girl has one ear up and one flooped today.

Oh and Marie cate? Just because I understand what you mean about size issues with a Dobe, that doesn't mean I need to make it easy for you. :-) A few more "baby Mason" photos to keep everyone until I get some new Jovi photos.

It's getting more difficult to take photos of her. If she's awake, she's running and most of the photos I take have her running right out of the frame. I did get a few today.

This thread is getting close to the limit! I'm glad, because I'm sick and tired of having to scroll through the darn thing just to get down to the latest batch of darling photos of your adorable, cute, frisky, sweet, darling, smart little Jovi! She's such a bundle of cuteness it makes me want to do the puppy thing all over again, and I'm soooooo over that. Yall enjoy your sweetheart, and Mason, too, who's being such a good role model for her. Wow.

Which means we need a new thread-part 2 of the Jovi and Mason story!

I do love all the photos. I am such a sucker for Rotties and Dobies. I think I must have been one in a former life or something because I'm naturally drawn to the 'black and tans'. We even looked at German Pinschers but they're really terriers rather then a Pinscher. But the size and look is right.

Oh well - we'll keep thinking and in the meantime I can live vicariously through your photos.
