I'm not waiting for compost.

I've been lagging in tending and feeding the compost this year and now I find myself needing some to mulch the gardens for winter. Today I picked up 5 huge bags of shredded leaves mixed with grass clippings along with a substantial quantity of used coffee grounds (UCGs). Oh, and a bit of seaweed for good measure as well as pine needles.

After mixing and watering everything in the compost bin, I decided that I'm not going to wait for this stuff to go on the gardens in the spring and I began taking one wheelbarrow after another and spreading it in one of my many flower/ornamental gardens.

I remember doing this a couple of years back and it created much less work in the spring - not to mention that everything grew like gangbusters that year. Oh, and by the time spring came, that stuff was so nice and dark and the worms were having a hay-day in the gardens VS the compost pile. I'd rather they be having a party in the gardens anyway. :O)

No, I'm not waiting for finished compost this year. Let it rot in the gardens!
