A tray on the counter? Won't that take up valuable kitchen real estate? How will it dry?

There must be some place to put a hook.

You can even get magnetic hooks for the refridgerator.

Same problem here. The thing is that anywhere not near the sink & it's not convenient.

We will probably do something next to the window.

What is a *tidbit tray*?

Your oven door doesn't have a bar? That works well and the towel would only hang down over the door - not where it could catch fire. Hooks also work well.

I use dish towels alot and paper towels as little as possible. I have a seperate fold-up hamper thingy that is in the laundry room right off the kitchen. I'm able to change towels frequently and either toss them into the hamper for washing, or hang to dry in the laundry room - it's very convenient.

How about putting a suction hook on the d/w front?

I have the same set up as natal but my hook is on the side of the cabinet.

Love the hook but I have shelving there and the backsplash will be under it.

I like the idea of putting a hook on the d/w, since it's right next to the sink.

There's a bar on the oven door, but it doesn't have an opening behind it for a towel.

Here's a link to a tidbit tray. They're a perfect size, narrow, and just right for hand soaps and lotions, and more. Takes up hardly any space.

BB&B used to sell white plastic suction hooks. You might try there.

Cool! I just did a websearch on dishtowel holders, and they make a lot of magnetic (pretty ones) hooks and bars to put on our dishwashers or fridges! Must.get.one. :)

I could not live without my under the sink towel bars.

My grandmother and mother used them and now, so do I. Even DH, who doesn't like to put holes in wood, finally relented.

They go on the inside of the doors, directly below the sink. I have one on each door. One for hand towel and one for dish towel.

Looked at my link and it is just showing the picture. I got them at Ace hardware. $5.00-$7.00 a piece.

my mom and grandmother do/did that too parma. Sadly, I have a garbage pull out thingy on one undersink cabinet and cleaning supplies on the other. Not a good place for my towels. I kinda miss that though.

I got a metal towel holder that hooks over the cabinet door. No drilling through the wood. This one I got at Bed Bath & Beyond for less than $10.

I ended up getting a white round (3 inches) metal hook from Organize-It, to put on the dishwasher. It holds a lot of weight so I bought two! lol.

Parma, I couldn't do the inside door bar, when I'm in the kitchen and need to grab for the towel, my hands are dripping wet and I don't want to mess with having to open a door then getting water on the cabs and having to wipe water off them and the floor. It's like grabbing a paper towel when in a hurry.

Speaking of, now I need a nice paper towel holder! My dh wants me to get the kind he has at the office, they have a suction cup on the bottom so you can use one hand. But they're ugly!

Oakley, hope you don't have a stainless dishwasher. I initially planned on hanging my towel from the DW handle, but quickly realized that was a mistake. Water drips on stainless are a PIA! That's when I decided on the wall hook.

I got a cheap($1) plastic over-the-door hook and slipped it over the false front on my sink near the hinge side. Still get some drips there, but I wipe them with the towel LOL. On hinge side it doesn't get caught in the door when I open it,and no holes in the wood.

My stainless steel fridge & dishwasher are not magnet friendly. I don't know why you can't use a magnet but they don't work.

Whoa! I was going to ask the very same question. My kitchen has absolutely no place to hang a towel. Even the range (picked out by previous homeowner) has no opening between the oven handle and body of range to hang one. I'm planning on getting a magnetic bar to hang one on. They have them at K-Mart, Big Lots, Lowes, etc.

Make sure it (appliances) is magnetic.
Try a regular magnet before buying the bar.

I bought one of those over the cabinet door holders like Shaun shows. It doesn't fit properly on any of my doors or drawers! Because I have a mix of cabinetry, it's too wide for some and too thin for the rest and doesn't fix correctly on any of it. Currently it is hanging all wobbly on the drawer pull but it's too far from the sink and too low and too easy to knock onto the floor.

My oven does not have handle with an opening and none of my appliances will hold a magnet.

I have a nice wrought iron hook that I bought for another use and never put up. Thanks to Natal I think I'll have it mounted above the sink next to the window. Finally my procrastination pays off! Now to find the hook and someone to mount it.......

And yet another with same problem. I do have a towel bar on the side of my little kitchen island. The WRONG side.

You can see it in this photo. But where I need a dishtowel is over by the sink, of course. I don't really want a hook there by the sink, even though I guess you could put one on the right cabinet side by the sink. And under my sink, we installed a paper towel bar on the cabinet door. That's not the Best spot for paper towels either, but you can see that I have the tiniest little bit of counter space and don't want to give it up for a free-standing towel holder.
Please don't roll your eyes at me............but........I just put my folded dish towel on the counter. Yes, it's true. Right there to the left of the sink, I usually lay a dish towel. Not when I'm having company of course. With company I have a pretty one hanging on the bar on the island. But if I'm cooking for my company and they are there, sitting in the bar chairs, or sitting in the chair by the window,

...then, I have so much stuff out on my meager counterspace anyway, pots on the stove, and salad being fixed on the island, that one little crumpled dishtowel thrown onto a corner of the counter doesn't even make a blip on the radar. Nothing like about 6-10 people draped all over a dinky kitchen space to help obscure a little faux pas like that!

Next kitchen will have a hook. I promise. But for now, just pity me. At least I have a deep drawer by the sink for my stack of ready to use dish towels.

Buy a command adhesive hook and put in on the cabinet somewhere near the sink, say on the false front panel below the sink if you have that, or on the frame of a nearby cabinet. They even make decorative ones now in a silver finish, or you could paint them with plastic paint.

I use something similar to Shaun. It's not a perfect solution but it allows the dish towels dry out nicely. It also gives me an excuse to stock up on pretty towels as they are very visible.

I had the same dilemma once we finished with our total kitchen reno last year! I didn't want to have a damp towel ruining the finish on my beautiful new cabs and, on top of it all, my kitchen walls are all exposed, rough adobe. The adhesive hooks won't adhere to them and I hate pounding nails into adobe. I found my solution over on a GW Kitchens thread. Someone had the cutest ceramic "kitchen pig (?) she kept on her counter and draped her damp towel across. I'm not crazy about pigs myself but found this small terracotta planter at our local nursery that is working great for my damp towel.

I have a free standing towel holder - I believe that it was meant to be used in a bathroom, but I like it in my kitchen. I am not a fan of hanging towels on the oven, dishwasher or anywhere on the lower cabinets. It just looks a bit messy to me. In a former house I put a pretty decorative hook on the side of the upper cabinet near the sink.

I received the magnets today and I just love them! They're round and white with the perfect size hook on them. I put it on the white dishwasher right next to the sink, and it holds the towel perfectly! Now I can't wait to get my new pretty towels out when the kitchen is finished to show them off. lol.

The magnet was advertised for holding weights of a coat, and boy are they right! Once it "flew" to the DW, it was hard to center it, that's how strong the magnetic connection is. I bought an extra one, so I have to see what I can stick it on. lol.
