Cheating on your house with your vacation house
Comments (34)We kind of flip flopped with the sleeping situation. DD dated someone for 2.5 years post college but they lived in separate cities 2 hours from each other (we live 6 hours from her). He came here twice and we put them in separate bedrooms (all of our spare rooms have twins, with one room having a trundle). That was our first experience with a BF/GF staying over so I think we just weren't ready for it yet or maybe because it was DD, not DS...I'm not quite sure. Later, youngest DS moved to Chicago after college and dated somone for a year, then they moved in together. When they came to visit, it seemed kind of dumb to have them in separate rooms since they were already living together. I set up the trundle but they ended up squishing into a twin....ah young love! I like your criteria MTN of working adults....See MoreRaising money to take our son on a fun vacation
Comments (22)I think you're prices are too low. You'd be lucky to make a profit on somethings. I just bought 2 peaches for $3 the other day. If you're making fruit pies and cobblers, I would definitely charge more for those. And,if your cookies have chips and/or nuts and butter, you'll be lucky to break even. Plus, you may have to plan on some stuff not selling. I would take preorders for the pies and cobblers (even cakes) and sell them whole for twice of what you paid to make them. People like being able to take bigger stuff home to other family members. If it's a fundraiser and a good cause, I would pay a lot more for homemade goods. I would price any individual item at at least a dollar or more. And, if you put enough fluffy icing on a cupcake you can charge big bucks for it! Just make sure to price stuff so that you're actually making a big enough profit to make it worth the effort. I'd hate to see you slaving and baking for 3 days to come out $7 ahead. How about doing some big iced cinnamon rolls one morning (or some other breakfast - bakery good)? I would bet you could charge a lot for those. People love eating with their morning coffee and will probably pay a little more for a treat then since it seems more like a meal instead of just a snack. Good luck; let us know how it goes....See MoreModest Vacation Home Plan Review
Comments (24)Chelwa, I really like the idea of the one wall galley. DH and I both like to cook and wanted plenty of counterspace, but I think we could still have that with the galley plan. You're right that it avoids the corner cabinet issues, it would also allow the stove to vent directly to the outside, and it would give us better use of the wall space if we go with the loft/ladder option. I'm going to work on that before going to the kitchen forum. Great idea, thank you. Still_waters, we have a similar laundry/mudroom setup now where we walk past the washer/ dryer and I'm fine with it but I do understand the issue - if the floor isn't clean you have to be careful taking your laundry out of the machines! For the back porch, we're in the south so keeping the back porch screened from insects is really needed, especially in a cove (mosquito heaven). I love sitting in the sun, in the winter with a cup of coffee, and will definitely find places for that. Door size: We actually have 28" doors on the bathrooms in the house we're in now, and it's the house we plan to age in! My fault entirely, it's a custom house and I was not thinking about aging in place at the time. For the lake house, as cpartist says from what I've read a wheelchair can access a 32" door if it is a straight approach (36" if you need to turn to enter). A straight approach could be done in the master bath in the lake house, and someone with a walker can access either bath....See MoreAmish Take Vacations Too
Comments (32)Yup, Lancaster is/was considered the Puppy Mill Capital of the world.. so sad! i think there is so much more information out there, that hopefully puppy mills will be a thing of the past or at the very least, greatly reduced. i know all the malls around us do not have a pet stores selling puppies anymore, YAY!! small victories to end this horrific money making industry! what is crazy to me is : if u need the horses to get you from place to place and plow your field, why oh why would u abuse them?????? they should be treated like royalty! my sister adopted a Golden Retriever from a rescue group. They go out to Lancaster and ask to take the older puppies that are very hard to sell, mostly males. they don't pay the breeder. they just ask to take them. the litter that they rescued, 4 males, were about 8 months old. the breeder was going to shoot them b/c they were costing too much $$ to take care of and their chances of being adopted were slim. TRUE STORY!! i have to say, my family has had dogs for over 40 years, so many dogs. and w/o a doubt, Chase, was the hands-down the BEST DOG EVER!!! she had to put him down when u developed a tumor behind his eye, he was 11 yrs old. know where your dog is coming from!! its not the dog that u adopt, its the breeder females that are stuck in cages their whole lives, they are the victims.! OP: sorry for the hijack but this is a touchy subject for me...See Morecamlan
