Lizbeth, I got rid of my old harvest gold colored Tupperware cake carrier (from the early 70's) because it was too small. It kept skinning the icing off of my 9-inch layer cakes.

Possibly a newer vintage of Tupperware would be larger?

Replaced it with a plastic carrier that I found at a rummage sale. It has a 12-inch diameter so it will hold large cakes & double as a pie carrier in a pinch. There's nothing stamped on it so I can't help you out w/ a brand name. Sorry.

My carrier looks just like this one except that the bottom is blue. So maybe I have a newer T'ware one except that I can't imagine Tupperware not having their name on it. Anyway, I've been happy with it. Prolly had it a year or two and have used it quite a few times. It locks down quite secure so I don't worry about the cake falling out the bottom.

I have the same one as well, except it has a blue bottom and I'm pretty sure it's from Pampered Chef.

It's OK, very functional, but not very pretty. I only use it for transporting cakes, in the house I have a glass pedestal cake plate with a dome lid that I use.

good Housekeeping just did a test on cupcake carriers too, they liked the Good Cook carrier for cupcakes, it comes with a cupcake pan, so it only carried 12 cupcakes. I haven't tried it, so I don't know.

I have an old Tupperware cake saver, but the top just snaps on and it doesn't work all that well, so I'd say go for one with a handle and some kind of snap closure.

As for that "we'll always replace a broken lid, etc., thing with Tupperware, well, they do. BUT they charge you shipping and handling so a new lid for my cookie keeper cost more in shipping and handling than buying a whole new container at the kiosk in the mall. Pah.

The Progressive cake carrier gets good reviews. I like that it's collapsible which makes it easier to store.

I don't have this one myself, but I just saw a TV episode of America's Test Kitchen, in which they recommended the Progressive Cake Carrier. One thing that sets it apart is that it collapses for storage to 4" high. It also comes with two trays for cupcakes.

Claire & Shannon: I initially was impressed with the Progressive until I read the reviews on Amazon. It seems the handle breaks quite frequently and the latches also break or come undone--many cake/cupcake losses. I still will look at it when I go to B,B,& B. but wish I could find one that really had rave reviews. Seems like a simple enough item, someone should make a good one!

Ci lantro & Arabella: I couldn't find a blue one on Tupperware or the Pampered Chef sites. I do think I will do more checking into Tupperware, find a local dealer and look at their carrier. My past experience with their products has been good. Hopefully I'll find something that works!

I have Blue Base Tupperware Cake carrier. it is plenty big and has the inserts to carry pies. They are outside in a shed I can't get to right now because of the snow. This carrier has carried a lot of cakes and pies and I am happy with it!

Lizbeth, I found a blue one up on eBay. S & H seems expensive, though.
