Josh Duhamel & Minot, ND flooding disaster...

Some of you may be aware of the ND city of Minots' flooding disaster going on now.

Unprecedented flooding now hitting Minot, ND. Thousands are losing their homes as I type, and over the next few days.

The actor Josh Duhamel is calling in to a Minot, ND news show from Moscow, Russia. He's from Minot, ND!! I thought it was nice he called from 1/2-way 'round the world!

This is just awful! My heart goes out to the people there. Are you far from Minot? I saw Josh Duhamel talking about it on TV too.

I'm originally from Nebraska- they are having flooding there too but not to this degree-

Yeah...we're a long way from Minot.

That river loops down into ND from Canada, and then loops back up. Minot is in NW/Central ND.
Fargo is obviously on the SE edge of ND, on the problematic Red-River!!

It's DAMN wet up here in the northern-tier states!!!
I WISH SO BAD that this water was goin' South where they could USE IT!!

You think I am a joker? hahaha It rained almost 8 inches in a week in Arizona. The usually dry river that runs through out town had almost 30 feet of water in it. It was the 2nd worst flood in the history of the town(at least the white people's history anyways). My point being that everyone always talks about Cali and how bad it was there and crap and yet like some people have said its a huge state. The el nino effect is going full tilt so we can expect to get lots of rain here in Arizona and in Cali as well. Deal with it people. WE have in my town, they are already rebuilding the bridges that got washed out and moving the silt outta the trailer parks. I saw some of the damages up close today and all manner of trees/cactus/everything else you could imagine was swept down the river and deposited everywhere. Only lucky thing is I didnt see any saguaros that got washed out, but there might have been some in those huge log jams.

I am a long ways from any water other than small rivers. Darn glad of it too. We still have 8 ft snow piles here! On the level I'd guess 3 to 4 ft. The forecast for our area has these red advisories: Flood Advisory Flood Watch Hazardous Weather Outlook We are supposed to get this storm, hopefully this time the weather guesser has it right, they say 3 or 4 inches of rain starting tomorrow afternoon with 45 MPH winds. Then changing to snow but they aren't saying a huge amount for us. Which we sure don't need anyway, don't need ANY rain either. Fargo is going to be horrible. Before this storm forecast they were calling for 1.5 million sand bags to be filled. The Red River flows north, so I'd think Grand Forks would sure get it, but then they don't have the snow fall we got all winter.

I'm just glad the nearest river is 6 miles in one direction and the next closest is 13 miles in another. Our flooding is all overland! ANy little creek or low spot is filled and overflowing pronto! DD and the boys got a reverse 911 call last night to inform them of two roads closed in her town. She lives 6 miles away from where she works, now has to drive a 30 mile detour to get to work,school and daycare because of washed out roads. The weather man assures everyone the water wont go down too fast because our ground is so saturated with the heavy rain we had last November, before we got this ton or two of snow! So it is slow going.

Yeah, I would think there is no way someone could get an FHA loan to purchase one of those homes. So I would think a buyer would likely have to pay cash and/or plan on demo'ing the house. I think in "disaster" areas sometimes special programs are offerred to help people rebuild or to entice people to buy what are nearly abandoned properties. I also wonder if many of these people in the affected area had flood insurance and how that (i.e. an insurance settlement) figures into selling the property. Or maybe the sellers are taking what government aid (money) they can get and then are able to sell for dirt cheap.

Oh! (duh) I forgot for a moment that you were from Fargo- and guess I need to brush up on my geography :). I wish the water was going south where they could use it too.

I just read that 2500 homes are now under water and it could reach twice that. 12,000 people have had to evacuate Minot!
It would be so hard to leave your home behind- and I guess most people there don't have flood insurance.
