Boston Cream Pie: variation on a theme

I'm making a Boston Cream Pie.

The cake portion tastes good, the pastry cream turned out well, also. It has a nice smooth texture. Problem? I think it tastes kind of bland, even though I followed the recipe to the letter.

How does this sound to you.

I strained some raspberry jam. When I assemble the cake how do you think it would taste if I put a light glaze of raspberry on the cake layer before adding the pastry cream. Just to give it a little flavor kick. The cake will be topped with chocolate glaze.

Would appreciate your thoughts.
