Baby stuff.........too much

It's fun to listen to you talk about your grandchildren. Speaking of buying things! I myself had a child later in life(40)after having my "first set" at age 23 & 24. Then 15 years went by, and SURPRISE! Anyway, that surprise is 19 yrs. old. I saved all the baby things for his older siblings to use. FINALLY, I can pass them on. I never gave up hope, one of these kids could make use of the stuff!

Even so.......I have spent way too much on new stuff. I would guess that is common for a first time grandchild.(on DSI side too) My husband put a moratorium on buying any more "baby stuff".

You're right there, Foggy! Nothing is good enough for the first child or grandchild. When my sister and I had our kids (2 months apart) my Mother went out a got 4 cribs, 2 for the cottage and 2 for their house, 2 playpens, 2 highchairs, 2 little rockers. So it didn't matter where we visited them, everything was there for us. But then all that stuff lasted through all the grandkids. Aren't grandparents just the greatest people?

Were you present in the delivery room for your grandchildren's birth? My daughter wants me there. It will mean traveling. (8 1/2 hrs by car.)I'm getting nervous just thinking about it! Her husband will probably faint or get ill!

Wow. It certainly depends where you are! Does start at $200-$400. Bucks $150-250, whethers 75-125. These prices are for purepreds, though, disease tested for the most part. Salebarn goats go for $30-70, though you can almost guarantee something wrong with them, sometimes you can get lucky & find one that the owners just lost interest in and not have CAE, CLA, or Johnes. Here though, we do not have year round pasture, oftentimes having to haul hay from quite a bit away. We're covered in snow/ice sometimes from Nov/Dec through Mar/April, depends, so the price to raise them is higher than some other areas. Plus, it's a bit more residential so that limits the breeders/choices. Brendasue

Marg - Yes the Corydalis should have dappled shade ideally. Mine is in full sun but seems to be used to it. Yes it is invasive. However I have mine in a raised bed surrounded pretty closely by other things so it doesn't have much space to really go anywhere else. Also, when the flowers turn into seed pods I remove them so they can't drop and start new plants. It's sort of a pain in the neck but I like the plant so I put out the extra effort. Jason

We are planning another tubal ligation and DH is having a vasectemy. The reason the Dr. recommended the tubal in the first place is because my broad ligaments supporting the uterus have stretched out and haven't gotten back into shape. Last time my baby belly was pointed down at a 45 degree angle. Also my upper muscles and ligaments are about shot, which caused me contractions for 6 weeks with everyother day monitoring at the hospital. The doctor told me that she was pretty sure that my body wouldn't handle another pregnancy and that this should be my last. So will have to be careful the first trimester. Also going to Chiropractor, prenatal Message, and Yoga this time around, hoping to get my body ready or at least be able to learn some relaxation techniques. My Dr. has been out of town since I found out last Wednesday, I go in and see here Thursday, boy will she get a surprise:) I am going to ask for a discount lol. I did ask the other Dr. in the practice and she said that my tubes were both tied and then cut, so this baby really wanted to be a part of our family. Stacie

yes we do need to wash and iron (when needed) little children's clothes. yes I don't think 2nd grader has to iron his own clothes. and no 2nd grader should not cook for himself. Cell phone replaced land phone for many, so yes one can die without it. Computers are required in school and most work has to be done on computer. many jobs that teeangers hold require computer. Overall your perception of life is very remote from reality. it seems stuck in the past and is not very realistic. DD required up to 4 hours of homework in high school daily, and more on the weekend (IB) and she had a job, also attended religious school on the weekends that she graduated from as well, she was a high school newspaper editor and GSA president etc, plus she rode horses competetivelly on the weekends (yes horse had to be cleaned as well). And DD wasn't even A student, those who were did even more school work. Plus she has a lot of family that she is involved wiht. I understand not every teenager has this type of life but many many do. the fact that you are not exposed to it in your life does not mean it is not out there. many teenagers attend magnet schools, schools for gifted, prep schools, Sunday schools etc they are extremelly busy, many teenagers are artists, musicians, athletes. Most have jobs and even demanding jobs. Of course everyone has chores and have to help but assuming that children/teenagers live this leisure life and have nothing else to do just play games and listen to ipod is very simplistic view that probably comes form your lack of experience wiht different kind of life and different kind of teenagers. It is just ignorant to assume that every teenager lives this way. It simply is not the case. Many children/teenagers do have great things ahead of them and it does take a lot of work and effort in school and in college and yes sometimes it means no time left for cooking. and sometimes certain things require a lot of practice on a daily basis such as certain sports or music etc. and most career oriented people are able to pay for services such as carwash or landscaping or even washing or ironing that will free time for doing other stuff in life including reading to children or taking them places or teaching them what is important.

Foggy, sorry it took so long to respond. I had my GS for the spring break. There was not much time for computers, and when there was, I forgot to check the Grandparents forum.. No I wasn't there for his birth. He was 10 weeks early, and she was in labour for 4 days before they finally did the C-section. And my DD and her husband are very private people. It was their private moment together. I have to give him credit though, he stayed with her every moment except to grab a few quick naps. And he's a very good 'hands on' father.

This is probably way more info than you wanted........oh well!

Wow, that must have been scary.
This seems to be a lonely place, everybody is at the KT forum I guess.
It is silly to have accumulated this baby stuff so early. I guess subconsciously I'm more excited than I thought.

If your DD wants you there for the delivery, you are so lucky. I would love to be with Kristen. Unfortunately this week she's been bleeding a bit, and we're a little concerned. Her doctor did another Ultrasound but could find nothing obviously wrong, so hopefully........? Later this morning I'm heading to Stratford to help out so she can rest instead of doing laundry, lifting the 3 year old or cooking. Then tomorrow I'm driving them back to her MIL's place for Easter weekend. We're all invited over for Easter dinner.

I just got back from dropping DD and GS at her MIL's. She really seems okay. We spent a lovely day yesterday, watching all the Harry Potter movies, eating take out, and just playing with GS. She said that she went through this at 6 weeks, but everything seemed okay then too. Hopefully this will be the end of the problems. She was complaining that she's having trouble fitting into any of her pants but she's not big enough to wear maternity clothes. She never got to wear them with the last pregnancy. She was barely showing when he was born.
