This graduation stuff is too much!

LOL Okay it just boils down to I am a last minute person and soooo disorganized that I hate doing this....I got I think most of the announcements and pics in the envelopes and made sure return addy's on all in case I messed up (am known to) next my MOM thinks since so much family will be in that I need to have a party....my mom who hates family functions...well thank goodness for my bro. and his wife...they are letting me have it at their house since they have a pool, trampoline etc. for kids as their is nothign to do at my house.....so after I get the announcements done then I have to do party invites......then stay on top of Sydney and make sure she gets her thank you cards done......think I will start now on Dylan and Tanner so that I will be ready for theirs LOL Stacy

Hmmmmm, I made my kids do their own announcements and thank you cards, including addressing them. They were the ones graduating and getting all the attention, so IMHO, it's THEIR job, not mine.

I did my DD's, she was busy with school functions and final exams. PLUS she has very sloppy handwriting. lol She did do her own thank-you's though.

I was exhausted after DD's graduation and party. Lots of work, but you can't let it go by without a celebration.

As my mother used to say (and it drove me nuts) "Where does an alien go to register??" LOL. I think its my learning disability/ADD, but this stuff seems almost impossible for me to understand. So are you saying I can use a splitter with the DTV converter box and my VCR and DVR? I realize that we are at a point in technology evolution that this change-over is needed, but its sure hard. You have alot of old farts like me who have been taping shows forever. I recently went through all of mine, and am sending about 3 grocery bags of VHS tapes to a recycling place......but I still have about 150 tapes left, with shows on them! Okay.....maybe here's an option for me: Start taping my shows on DVDs? I have a nice Sony DVR and I've never figured out the splitter thing, so I never taped on it. That way, I could get rid of the VCR in the equation.......except for when I wanted to watch some movies I'd taped (which I could do on my combo DVR). Is this thinking correct? I watched an hour-long PBS show last night on this change-over, and was very disappointed that they didn't once mention VCRs. I guess they are dinosaurs that the current electronic world wants to get rid of, right? What concerns me is that the rate of development is speeding up, and maybe we'll need another big change in 10 years. I worry about this country going through too much stuff! Thanks davidandkasie. Thanks for your thoughts. I just figured some people might want to see what can happen when you give in to every bell & whistle ;^) Let me answer the questions: Morton5: yes, if you look at the Before pic, you can see just how narrow a space we had there to sit and eat. The sink was constantly splashing the people there. We did away with the island completely in the end, though, and love the new layout. Redroze: I just keep it in this olive oil dispenser. The other dispenser there is for hand soap. I found the brush at Bed Bath & Beyond. It's specifically made to wash crystal glasses with, but I use it for my everyday glasses, too. After all the stuff I had drilled into my last counter/sink area, I tried to avoid drilling holes in this new one. Holes are so permanent, you know? "> Eandhl: It's Kohler's Vinnata in the brushed nickel and we love it. Brad, here's a couple, plus one of the KA's plan for that area: "> This was taken as we were moving back in, so it's a mess. Swap out the air gap for your second dispenser after inspection. On my big single sink I had one hole for faucet, one for instant hot, one air gap, one air switch, and one for soap. Some things you need, but I'm ready to skip the soap next time. I got a dish drainer that hangs in the sink...had to hang over the air gap and disposal. Same with my veggie washing basket. I didn't think all those things LOOKED bad, but they FUNCTIONED badly. Didn't appear that cluttered because my faucet was the size of a rocket.

How much money for a high school graduation gift.

I think $50.00 is good for high school, and one hundred for college. This reminds me of the time when our granddaughter graduated from high school and college. We gave her $500.00 for high school graduation, and bought her a used car of her choice, for college graduation we gave her $5,000. We neither got an acknowledgement of a thank you or a note that she liked what we did for her. It hurt badly. But when she got married we downsized the gift giving to her and only gave her a kitchenaid mixer and food processor. We still did not get a thank you! She told her brother that Mimi and Poppy were being stingy in the gift giving. Her brother Christian has always thanked us for EveryThing we have ever done for him. Why should I want a thank you? Maybe some of you ask. Because I know they liked what we gave them and it just feels good to know you pleased them.

My kids did the addressing and stuffing envelopes and thank yous. All I did there was provide address book and stamps! LOL
The house I think I started on months ahead of time, anything that had to be replaced WAS! lol Painted too. Food was a catered...but it was simple, turkey and ham sandwiches, potato salad,fresh fruit salad, gosh I can't remember what all. The graduation cake and mints for sure.
It is a lot of work! Thankless too! LOL
The way you work Stacy, you will have it all pulled together in a few days time! Take a deep breath!

Oooo bad bad Stacy LOLLOL! i am just kidding :-) i don't have kids but have a DH working on a combined honors BS/MS w/ under 2 yrs to finish. until dec 08 he had been chipping away at the degrees part-time for several yrs. we finally could afford to have just me work and him in school fulltime and i can not WAIT till this is over lol. i am sooo ready for it to be over i am already planning for the celebratory vacation of 3-4 weeks in hawaii, a huge party, how i want the annoucements to be, all the special sashes he'll have for graduation from several of his honor societies etc... my big dilemma is the party, DH' school friends (in their early 20's) want drunken hotel party, my first choice was very upscale Leu Gardens where we got married LOL. but i do also LOVE planning so i'm having fun! good luck i hope sydney enjoys it all, high school graduation only comes around once :-) ~ liz

A note of caution: Put the tampoline away before the party. It is too much of a hazard at a party.

Graduation parties are huge around here - but more and more of them are becoming fun casual affairs. I love getting invites! I have so many to go to, all on the same day though - that is a bummer.

Many kids do the invites themselves. In fact, many try to incorporate a graphics class into their senior schedule. They can design their invites and a lot of their "senior" fun things in that class and get credit for it.

I have gotten a few invites that are done on the photo machines - like the long Christmas card types of prints. Those are awesome! It has a few pics of the kids and the party info.

My favorite grad party last year was a "Walking Taco" party.

I've been to a taco party also and enjoyed it. They had some type of taco in a bag. It was a good idea. For mine, I did the more traditional stuff for food. The decorations were nothing typical. She wanted to decorate it herself so she put up lots of fun stuff. She did not decorate with the school colors or the typical class of stuff.

What I'm trying to say is relax, have fun with it and let your daughter help to plan it. I do agree though that I also had to do all the work ahead of time because the emotions are just too high and they are just too busy.

This graduation stuff is too much!
