Yeah, if a plant has a propensity for infection in my area, I don't plant it. Heck, if a bug eats it so it looks more bad than good, same thing. I don't plant it. My form of Integrated Plant Management. IPM. Why would somebody choose a battle using chemicals? As Ken said, "Is there not enough to choose from? I try to avoid battles. I've had to saw down or shovel prune more plants than I'd like to admit to. It's called learning the hard way. Now with the Internet, it should be easier to avoid problems. I would think this would apply to commercial operations because chemicals increase the overhead. It also makes for unhappy customers that don't follow a regular schedule of timely spraying of the appropriate chemicals. Returns and lost customers are NOT fun. Mike

How old is the house? The older types of mastic were called black mastic because they used asphalt based cement and they added asbestos to it, if that's the case they should have removed that also, they have special chemicals and you need good ventilation when using them. As being sticky, I never ran across this material, so I wouldn't know if it remains sticky or not after the tile is removed... I vaguely remember a little bit about it because when I was taking the building inspectors course ages back I did some reading on it, but that's about it, I'm sure you can find some updated information online, try to google "black mastic" and see what comes up.
