Some things to consider that I haven't seen mentioned yet, cost to move can be significant. New houses are more expensive than the price you're told, generally. Most people I've talked to who built new found out the hard way that things like locks on the windows are optional extras, and so on. As mentioned, new houses, unless custom built, will normally have builder grade everything. 10 year roof, cheap faucets, plumbing fixtures and lighting. If you want to upgrade, figure quite a bit more than retail at the DIY store. Also they might not build it the way you want. For instance, a friend couldn't get the builder to install an ADA height toilet. So that would have required installing it himself or hiring someone else. More money. Appliances? If they come with, which seldom they do, they'll be cheap ones so plan on replacing in 5-10 years. And if they're not included/specified you could spend $1000 on them or $20,000 on them, depending on tastes. Figure that into the bill too. Unless you spend some major money on the new place, you might just defer your expenses for 5-10 years and be in the same boat you are now. If you put the roof on now, (which you might need to in order to sell it anyway), it should be good for 20-30 years or more. Now for other considerations, are there concerns as far as medical services, shopping, emergency or the like? You know what you have, will it be more expensive in a new place? If so, it's an added cost. My point is to be careful to consider all items in making your decision. Heat costs are high for you now, but insulating should help significantly and you might even get some assistance if you qualify. Some other costs could outweigh the heating savings. Don't forget about taxes, assessments, HOA fees and other incidentals. If the new place has a public sidewalk you probably have to maintain that, additional effort or expense. Personally, I would like to move. And soon. But there's a real comfort in having no house payment. Ideally I could move to an area where I could buy/sell with pocketing money, but that's not as easy as it would have been a while back. And a built house most likely wouldn't have the cripple-compatibility & conveniences I'd want so there's expenses there. Buying a modular, even customized would have issues. There's other benefits to living where I do. Problem is, being crippled up makes everything more difficult. So I hire mowing, shoveling and a lot of the maintenance. Would still have to do that at a different place though. Lots to consider. Good luck!

Hello, my name is Netla and I have a paper fetish. It extends to printed books, notebooks, sketchbooks, watercolor paper, origami paper, scrapbook paper, stationery, stickers, postcards, etc. I can disappear into a stationery shop or a bookstore and not emerge for hours. Just about the only things I hand-write these days are memos, birthday- and Xmas cards, and my journal when I‘m travelling. Favourite pens for everyday writing are Uni-Ball pens, but since they tend to spring leaks when I try to take them with me on flights (resulting in an unholy mess when I uncap them), I usually write my journals with fade-proof markers or ball-point pens. I use calligraphy pens for writing cards. I have long since stopped using fountain pens for calligraphy and just buy Artline calligraphy markers. I still do have a set of calligraphy fountain pens and a couple of dip-pens with different size nibs. My favourite pens are Marvy Uchida drawing pens because while I don‘t write much, I do draw a lot. They‘re light-fast, waterproof and archival and come in sizes down to .005 – perfect for very fine work. I also have an uncounted number of pencils, pens, markers and crayons I use for drawing and colouring. I abandoned cursive writing the first chance I got, because my handwriting was pretty much illegible when I used it. I can still read it and enjoy deciphering old letters. I took a calligraphy class many years ago in order to try to make my handwriting more legible, but all I got from it was the ability to to write beautifully in italic script, which is too time-consuming to use as for everyday writing. I use it for writing Christmas- and birthday cards. On really special occasions I use Gothic or Celtic script.

Cran, I am usually the one who needs a fire lit under me! Arapaho I also gravitate towards greens and yellows and those are the predominant colors downstairs. I made a concerted effort upstairs to use blue and white and taupe in the main living area and secondary bedrooms. Tina, part of the reason I wanted to leave off the chair skirt is because I wasn’t sure I have enough fabric for it. A large plaid or pattern repeat means just a club chair skirt can take 3 yards of fabric! So after I saw the bed I called the upholsterer and told him to leave off the skirt and change the legs to turned ones. It was a question of necessity as much as happy coincidence.

January 2024 Ditto to all comments except to add another thing The installers came to install the machine - paid an extra amount to have this done for us. He left with no instructions except to say that he ran an automatic cycle that would take 2 hours. I thought I heard water going into the machine he gave a final tweek to the water inlet tap and left. I glanced ata the machine it said "water intake" how nice I thought it tells me what cycle it is up to . 1.5 hours later it still said the same and no noise of water intake. I rang miele to ask and was put through to the service centre. no bookings for service until another fortnight. Went back to the machine and turned the water tap and it was fully closed! opened it the water came in and the cycle continued! then at the end the door was fully shut with the door lock! Not a good way to start the new year. Sadly I would no longer recommend Miele to anyone. Sad story with the integrated Miele coffee machine it wouldn't froth milk got the service man to come out - cant be fixed, He played around with the water valve Now it can't make coffee! So we bought a free standing Delonghi coffee machine for a fraction of the price, It makes nicer coffee too.
