Which Miele Dishwasher is the right choice?
Comments (32)sreedesq, I don't know if yo've made your decision, but I had my Benchmark installed yesterday. There is a similar difference in dB level between my older unit and the new one. Can I tell the difference? Yes. Could everyone? I'm not sure. If your sound sensitivity and the room situation demand the quietest possible, them do the upgrade. If quiet enough that you will often (not always) have to check whether the DW is running and not have to raise your voice or TV volume is good enough, then anything in the mid to low 40s should make you happy....See MoreMiele DW auto open on Diamond only?
Comments (10)Yeah it would be nice if appliance manufacturers just described whatever features their appliances have, rather than feed their bizarre need to give every feature some registered-trademark name like "FlexiCare Plus" or "ComfortClose" that leave potential buyers confused and clueless as to what they are. None of the local vendors have any dishwashers that are plugged in so I've never seen the Miele Diamond LED lighting, though the blue glow inside the new Thermador dishwashers may eclipse the Miele re: the bad-ass factor. Miele's white LEDs much better for actually seeing what's in your dishwasher and whether it's clean, but nothing says "high-end kitchen" quite like colored mood lighting in your dishwasher.......See MoreExpress Mode on Miele dishwasher
Comments (32)Okay, I have only had my dishwasher a week now, but I have done a LOT of dishes in that time as we had Thanksgiving dinner at my house. That meant I got to do an entire load of each of crystal, fine china, pots and pans - basically every type of dishware. I have probably done 20 loads of dishes (or more) in this week so far. I went with the Dimension Plus and I am happy I did. The Normal (with Turbo) and China/Crystal take about 90 minutes. This is about 30 minutes longer than I'd like. I have taken dishes out the moment the door opens and there is sometimes (a little) residual water, but if I wait for the drying cycle to completely finish (the fan turns off) then everything is dry unless I did something dumb like load a bowl upside down. I have not had the model without this feature, but my guess would be that the drying cycle of most Miele dishwashers ends where the Drying Plus starts. If so, then this is a really must-have feature for me as some dishes are just not quite dry enough at the start of the Drying Plus mode. I interrupted the cycle a few times to check - it's a bummer than once interrupted one cannot resume it. I did use the Miele rinse aid and the dispenser needed a refill already. I estimate that I will have to refill once every 7-10 days for my usage and one bottle of rinse aid will fill the dishwasher about 5 times. That's a bottle of rinse aid about every 4-6 weeks. I really like the Miele rinse aid. No smell and NO SPOTS. The technician who came out to install my dishwasher recommended that I use Cascade powder detergent. He said not to use gel as it will destroy the interior of the machine over time. He said he really shouldn't say anything bad about the Miele tabs and that they are okay, but that based on talking to the techs who do repairs (and his own 10 year experience as a tech with GE) Cascade powder is his recommendation. Ignoring that advice (although I will try some Cascade powder and Finish at some point), I tried Palmolive ECO+ gel (which I had left over), Miele tabs (both full and half - he left me with 4 of them), and Cascade Complete tabs (the ones without Dawn in them). I always left the rinse aid dispenser on. I have hard water (salt dispenser is set to 20) and the washer is attached to the hot water line. My impressions so far are that when I use an entire Miele tab there is a slight graininess on the surface of the dishes. I even had to rinse some off. This goes away when I use half of a tab. The Cascade tabs result in dishes that seem less dry initially (although they will dry if I leave the door open long enough - say overnight). The Palmolive gel doesn't get REALLY dirty dishes quite as clean as the other two, but it results in pretty clean, dry dishes. In my opinion, I don't think it matters a whole lot. Miele makes a good dishwasher. Dishes come out clean, although there were some dishes that even it could not handle. Glass is always spotless, which is wonderful. Plastics seem to dry, but I wash very little plastic. Based on my experience so far I would not pay more for the Miele tabs....See MoreMiele washer door won't open
Comments (12)I could not open the doors on my washer or dryer! I noticed the posts on these websites when trying to find out how to open the doors on my new Míele WWV 980 WPS washer, and Míele TWV 680 WP dryer. I scoured the manuals to no avail, and no matter what I tried, I could not open the doors. I decided that Míele had reached an unprecedented low with these new machines, and I was desperate to run my laundry wash and dry. What I discovered, with the assistance of a helpful young lady at Míele in Melbourne, when I was finally able to get my call answered after about 3/4 of an hour, was that I simply had to pull harder on the door, and it snapped open, as did the door on the dryer. It was not really hard for an old bloke like me to open: I had just been afraid of pulling too hard, and maybe damaging the door locking mechanism. You have to give it a really firm pull, and it snaps open. Maybe it is Míele's attempt to ensure that smaller children do not open the door too easily to give the family small pet a wash or puff dry. Who knows? The machines are very easy to set up and use, and my brother and I have quickly set them up to be on our home Wi-Fi network, and controllable on the iPhone, and to use the options we want as Favorites. Basic options on the machines are closely related to those on our previous Míele washer, the W 487 S WPS, and Míele condenser dryer, the T270 C Novotronic. I started using Míele products in 1983, with a vacuum cleaner that lasted 23 years until the motor burned out due to some heavy duty cleaning up of cement dust and other rough dust. The second Míele vacuum cleaner has lasted 20 years without a problem, and I've just replaced that one with a new one. The last washer/dryer combination above lasted 16 years without a problem, and have been replaced in spite of still being in good order. We just wanted to move to more versatile machines. Our Míele conventional oven, a H5681BP, and conventional/microwave oven, a H5080BM, are both 10 years old without problem, and the dishwasher, a G 1220 SC, is 15 year old without a problem. If you have the latest Míele washer or dryer turned on, and the display is on, and there is a padlock symbol in it, then don't try to just pull it open, but touch the display add laundry option first, and follow your manual. But if the machine is switched off at the start/stop in the display, or at the wall, you should be able to just pull the door open with a very firm pull by placing your fingers behind the orange line on the chrome of the door at the edge, and just pull it open. I had been convinced I had bought two duds when I "couldn’t" open the doors with a cautious pull, as I tend to do for fear of damaging a new appliance I am not familiar with, but it turned out I just needed to be a bit more assertive about it! I am not trying to tell you this is definitely the answer in your particular case, but it may well be, if you are a gentle soul like me! Cheers, Gaffer....See MoreJohanna Cohen
