Comments (4)Mine does that also, I just keep typing. A list comes up below and if I see what I want listed I click it. There has been a change to Google search that I don't like....when I start typing it jumps to the top and if I hesitate and want to add another word like the version or the word download it won't accept it, I have to start over again. They must be making a lot of changes....See MoreCost of adding an 'auto-fill' to pool
Comments (40)Portable auto-fill valves exist than can be set on the deck and dangled into the pool, fed with a garden hose. They cost less than US$100, or less than US$25 in parts if you want to construct your own. The only disadvantage is having a hose lying on the deck, a possible trip hazard, but it is much cheaper than trying to retrofit one in an existing pool. I constructed the one in the photo for around US$25, using ordinary PVC pipe fittings, a Kerick Valve MA052 PVC Mini Float Valve (US$17 from Amazon.com), and a brass 3/4-inch FPT to female hose adapter. The black container is a re-purposed plastic nursery pot with drain holes in the bottom, secured to the pipe with a couple of UV-resistant black nylon cable ties to keep the automatic pool sweep hose from tangling with the float. A brick keeps it from moving. Not seen in this photo is the garden hose that supplies water from a nearby hose bibb. The float is secured to the valve with a wingnut, so fine-tuning of the water level is possible by changing the angle of the float — no tools needed. Since the valve is above the water level, a backflow preventer is unnecessary; there is a natural air gap between the valve orifice and the pool surface. During the hottest part of the summer the water just dribbles or drips from the valve to keep the pool level constant. During the rainy season it gets take out of the pool and is stored away....See Moreplumbing questions
Comments (6)Running the pump at it's lowest speed would cause the spills to dribble. For a clean sheer, expect 10 GPM per foot. That's 30 GPM. In order to reduce the volume, you might want to raise the sides of each spill slightly. \_____/ instead of :_______:. That would narrow the level pool side edge of the spills and reduce the GPMs. Not that the above example is done using just the keyboard characters and exaggerates what I mean. Figure another 20 GPM for the pool returns. The Intelliflo pump will still use less energy than any other pump, as far as I know. Be happy that your pool will still use less energy dollars than most. I didn't see a chlorination system. How are you planning to add chlorine? Tablet feeders typically need more flow than salt cells. Salt cells usually want about 25 GPM to satisfy their flow switch and tablet feeders, depending on the unit, want about twice that so that enough water can wash over the tabs and be sent to the pool. IMHO, don't get too hung up on the energy usage. Getting to the 80 to 90% performance curve of what's possible with of the shelf stuff is great. Getting to 98% costs 10X more. Think of the enjoyment your new addition to the family will bring. It wants your family and friends to swim in it. Hanging with the significant other or chilling with your pals in the spa with a frosty cold drink! A pool is an artificial life form. It has a heart, kidney, veins, arteries, needs to be fed and cleaned or it will get sick. It might take you an hour a week to see to it's needs for the hours and years of enjoyment it will provide. Its the new baby that won't need college or wedding paid for. Scott...See Moretsunami
